@Francis,
Yes--it was a great race.

But where have you been? I sensed something not quite right before you disappeared.

smorgsie has been telling us certain intimate things about her pussy in your absence. I'm sure her pussy would be mortified if it knew it had been discussed on the international air-waves.

@spendius,
Trying to gather some wisdom in the middle of North America's vast expanses..

Similarly to Smorgs pussy, I'd be mortified if such matters were discussed openly on the world wide web..

@Francis,

Francis, "pussy" is a well known (and often employed) double entendre in English, an expression I'm sure you will know, and its other meaning is....

"cat".

@Francis,
How large was the receptacle you thought necessary to hold the wisdom you gathered?

That's not strictly true Mac. There are all sorts of cats. A pussy is a particular type of cat. It is one, usually owned by ladies of a certain age, very few men would ever say "my pussy", which is cossetted and stroked a lot and sits comfortably in their laps. It is very sissified, plaintive, cloying, stupid and an all round general nuisance from a number of points of view. Except of course to those ladies who own such fortunate creatures. I wouldn't mind trying it myself as a matter of fact.

@Francis,

Yes yes yes, I know you know. Maybe my irony (was that what it was?) was not too apparent.

Anyway there was a joke in there, and a phrase from La Belle France.

@spendius,
Spendi, I said "trying" and you immediately infer that I succeeded!

@Francis,
No. I was alert to that. I rewrote my original sentence to take account of it. I said what "you thought necessary".

@spendius,

They say cats have people, rather than the other way round.
Also, it is said that there are more cat owners than cats in Britain. I believe that.

Daddy wouldn't buy me a bow-wow
Daddy wouldn't buy me a bow-wow
I've got a pussy cat
And I'm very fond of that
But I'd rather have a bow-wow-wow.

@McTag,
Do you mean some cats have figured out how to get fed at two houses? I don't think such cats would be classed as pussies.

@spendius,
Well, if you use a shift register (as wisdom evolves) at the atomic level then that wisdom can be contained in 6.022 141 79 x 10^23 atoms...

@spendius,

I do not share that particular distinction over the use of the term.

@spendius,
You told us you are a scientist, Spendi, you should know..

In addition, I must confess, even though I know some stuff about usual fauna, I'm not a specialist of the gnats' appendages..

@Francis,
They are small comparatively. I'm not a lady gnat so I can't look at the matter from her point of view. I don't doubt we share DNA with gnats.

I was trying to get a handle on the number you gave. It might be all the atoms in the universe for all I know.

@spendius,
They are small indeed, as is my wisdom.

The number I gave you is Avogadro constant

Did you notice, this morning

10:10' 10" on 10.10.10

I remember 5.5.55, when I was at school, 6.6.66 and 7.7.77, when I had a birthday.
Don't remember the others, lacking interest probably.

@McTag,
It's 10--10--2010. The latter being reckoned from the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

At a point about 82 minutes ago time reckoning flased past the 10th second of the 10th minute of the 10th day of the 10th month of the 10th year of the century. I hope you were suitably attired and postured when that event took place Mac. I was asleep I'm afraid so I failed to notice it although I was incapable of avoiding it.
