I missed the bit about spanners! Will I have to buy 2? I've got strong arms - will I be able to tighten it enough?
I run a special course on how to tighten nuts.

@smorgs,
Hey, dadpad is right on with that recommendation. Teflon tape won't cost a great deal of money and may solve your problem without calling a plumber. Jeez, I've seen the maneuver with the two spanners but that takes a fair amount of strength and more co-ordination than I have!

Sandie's Dupont had "oh so gentle continental ways"
DuPont Chemicals was never ever gentle.

Just got a text of Eunice asking me to go on a murder mystery weekend in the Lakes - though I've never been to the Lakes (can you believe it?) not sure if I fancy it.

What you think?

It's the Jeremy Kyle one.

@smorgs,
It's a pickhandbag scheme I should imagine.

I recommend a nice box of Black Magic, tuck your feet up under your bottie on the sofa and settle down to the X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and then the Last Night at the Proms to finish off the evening feeling posh and arty.

@McTag,
Do you really think Mac that us lot can have a view on the Pope that's worth a squashed bean. You do not understand this world. You only think you do.

@spendius,

Really what's the place coming to, that Spendy should make such a statement.
Of course you can have a view.

Plenty of writing in the press lately taking a dim view of ex-Cardinal Ratzinger's
antics. A good book review in The Guardian yesterday, of a book by Geoffrey Robertson QC, about the Vatican paedophilia scandal and its history.
Not flattering at all.

@McTag,
The Church isn't here to be flattered Mac. I'm beginning to think you all just like talking about little boys. And reading about them.

@McTag,
I'm not defensive at all. It's you lot keep on coming back to it. Why is it so important to you. In what way does it affect the Church's teaching that a few morons trick their way into a 600,000 strong body of priests a large number of whom work in difficult and dangerous conditions in poor countries.

You're obsessed with it. Do you think a few morons are capable of discrediting teaching on abortion, divorce, birth control, eugenics and adultery? We all know where the Grauniad stands on those matters. 46,000,000 abortions since Roe/Wade is the USA and a 50% divorce rate and you are blathering about a handful of proven cases. A plenty of other occupations have their share of those perverts.

You're obsessed alright.

You protest too much. As for obsession, his Holiness has decided to visit Britain and that makes him news.

If you can't read yesterday's Guardian for the book review, here:

@McTag,
I'm not reading that. I know what it will say and I know who it is sucking up to.

What should concern you is why a society produces any peediwhatsits. It is found nowhere in evolution and thus it must be derived from the cultural side. The nurture rather than the nature. The priesthood is one of many professions which allows contact with young people. Someone inclined that way might well have acted at being a priest. Some have acted as scoutmasters and sport's coaches and social workers. Our government now has a strict vetting procedure for such occupations. It didn't used to but it has now. I've seen an ex-boxer filling the forms out and going for interviews. So our Government has recognised it is something going far wider than the priesthood.

And while you are all focussed on priests and having your twee outrage freakouts you are being distracted from the serious question. Why are there any men like that at all. Does the Grauniad play any part in creating them? If it does then I can see why it lays out the shitescreen. As if the Church has caused them. Like our Government it will have tightened up its recruitment standards.

And a materialist is in no position to cast aspersions on them. Or anybody else for that matter. Can they help it? Some men inclined that way might even join the priesthood because they think it will make it easier to control their urges.
