@Walter Hinteler,
On a second thought: you could publish them, as a 'book-on-demand' for instance. Or have them printed in the job centre's magazine ...

It would be remiss of a Brit thread not to notice that today Test Match history was made at Lord's. Stuart Broad became the first cricketer to follow his father in scoring a century for England. Broad Snr. scored 6.

Stuart Broad also became the highest ever scoring N09 batsman for England and with luck tomorrow, he needs about another 50, he could become the highest scoring No 9 of all time in Test Matches. The record is held by a New Zealander.

@Walter Hinteler,
Can't do that Walter!

Some of them are proper naughty...

I'd be expelled.

(just joking about the naughty thing)

Actually, they're right mucky

(no really, I'm joking)

Anyway, just been singing this at the sink, in my loudest voice, the cat buggered off...

How can you say that about early pop McT?

@smorgs,

I don't know any pop after 1973.

My computer is okay-ish again. The screen power supply failed, and it may have had something to do with all the crappy dust that was inside the PC box. Two different problems cropped up at one time. What are the chances of that happening, eh?
Anyway I've got a different screen pro tem and I'm up and running.
But it's as slow as the Second Coming.
There's a line for you to work on.

It requires no work Mac. Unlike the slow Second Coming.

My school pal Tom used to like "Hats off to Larry" by Del Shannon. And another liked "Rubber Ball" by I think Jimmy Justice because he enjoyed singing the refrain "bouncy bouncy". I rest my case.

@McTag,
I'm not sure exactly what constitutes "early pop" yo you all, but how about Dell Shannon's "Runaway" or early Roy Orbison .... "Dreams", "Only the Lonely" etc ?

Poor Stuart Broad eh. He fell lbw, on a review after being given not-out by the on-field umpire, just a few runs short of the all-time record for a No 9 batsman. The record was held by Ian Smith of New Zealand who scored 173 in a Test Match in 1990 beating a record going back a very long time. Mr Smith is happy. Being top of any list in Wisden is what being English is all about. Broad also bettered his father's previous best. And he looks a bit like Adonis they say.

With his parnter at the crease, Jonathan Trott, who is more like a potato, they beat the previous highest all time 8th wicket partnership of 313.

Trott came close to becoming the first batsmen ever to score two double centuries at Lord's in Test Matches. It was the finest of nicks. Hot spot hardly glowed.

Alas I now gather that a dark cloud has rolled across the scene. A betting ring allegation. Let us all hope it isn't true. I won't say pray because I know none of you believe in that sort of thing.

Perhaps if we all believed in prayer there would be no match rigging. Perhaps not.

@georgeob1,

Roy Orbison very good. I liked Neil Sedaka too, come to think of it, though it was probably the mood of the times, sap rising and all that.
The film That'll Be The Day caught the (British) mood of those times very well, I thought.

Does anyone here watch Wallander on More4? Good stuff. Tonight's was very gory.

@spendius,
Well - you Poms need all the practice (and ego-boosting) you can get...the end of the year approaches, with the big test coming.

@margo,
Yes margo. I know. I imagined Stuart Broad and Jonathan Trott's parnership today after the Aussies getting England's middle order on the ropes.

Good afternoon peeps!

Oh when will my washing dry?

I should just give up, re-wash it and put it on't maiden. Yet now it's sunny and windy! But there be dark clouds in't North... hanging over't washing like a domestic damaclese, and I don't even know how to spell that.

Lasagne for tea, all are welcome. Eunice, her hubby, daughter and partner are coming, but not Ma, on account of the onions in it.

Garlic bread - it's the future.

x

PS River's really high

Damn O'Cleese

My face is really skelpit with the wind- and rain- I've just come back from Liverpool.
Stunning sunset tonight, did you see it? Wow.

Yellow and orange sky at night,
Pull the drawbridge up tight

as folks do say.

And if the clouds are showing purple
Put on hi-fi, Mott the Hrple.

@McTag,
I thought stunned organisms lay where they fell. I didn't think they could get back home and type messages on internationally respected debate sites.

@spendius,

We went on the boat from Salford down the Manchester Ship Canal and it was very good and interesting and all that, but it was blowing a gale. White waves on the Mersey, and when we got to the Pier Head we felt quite braced.

@spendius,

You're such a charmer, Spendy. Every time I turn the machine on, there you are with another sneering snivel.

Le tout Liverpool est en fete, at the mo, and the waterfront is shaping up well after having a lot of money spent on it.

Big music festival too.
I thought you'd be down and around Mathew Street listening to Beatles tribute bands and telling all those within earshot to Relax.
