That's a drop in the ocean compared to what the Luddites could have saved.

@spendius,
The laugh of the day. During the BBC's brilliant coverage of Royal Ascot.

Clare Balding and Willie Carson were discussing the overnight death of Mrs Lomax who was the first lady to train an Ascot Gold Cup winner 40 years ago.

Clare said "It's almost appropriate that she should pass away on Gold Cup day". Sheesh!!! That's a serious solecism.

There was another funny moment. One young lady dressed in a dazzling array of pink chiffon was shown walking in the manner of an all-in wrestler.

@spendius,

Your arch remarks about Luddites make no sense in this situation.

Drilling for oil with no idea how a leak could be dealt with is more than just foolish and careless.

@McTag,
The whole situation makes no sense to Luddites Mac. Flying to Germany and flying to the US and flying goodness knows where makes no sense.

I would rather not discuss the matter with you Mac. Your remarks are ridiculous.

@spendius,
He's flying? Through the Tunnel?

Well, I know that some 'upgrade' Brits fly over our autobahns. Not McTag, I know his driving.

@aidan,
I understand that on St. David's Day, Englishmen would line up on the Welsh border and throw leeks at the Welsh.

@spendius,

Okay I'm back from Germany now. Very well fed, I might add.

Thank you, I had a lovely time.

England expects that every man shall do his duty.

Scotland looks on in amusement. But not unsympathetically.

Since you kindly waved the German flag, I've hoisted those flags today ... Wink

@McTag,
Wishing your boys the best of luck against Slovenia tonight, 11pm downunder time. Will be watching that one, followed at 3.30am by the Socceroos against Serbia. A good win for both teams is a must or it is home tomorrow. I always have the Dutch to fall back on, they're there. Laughing

Not at all Mac. I am well up for a discussion about oil addicts who can't seem to rest in their skin unless they are shopping, spending, travelling and generally doing all within the constraints of their resources, and even beyond them, to create what they fondly believe is a suitable backdrop to their fat egos and bringing us things like Piper Alpha, the Gulf spill and the bloody credit crunch with its years of austerity not to mention the unholy racket and stink they create as they rape and ransack the earth and will semingly remain unsatisfied until they've wrecked it or their unutterably boring conversation as their eagerness to tell us all about it gets the better of that natural reticence which a proper education is supposed to inculcate.

I am quite happy to debate the issue of the real causes of the accident in the Gulf which those overblown, twittering egos have induced one of their principle agents to bring us by offering them financial inducements on a grand scale to provide them with evermore cheap energy to squander. Indeed I have done as you must know.

It is the flouncing, outraged response of the OTEs which I was seeking to avoid in your case. I know that you would soon be kicking over the table and stomping off muttering about Ignore if I were to allow myself to give a full and frank exposure of the issue. You couldn't even take a train journey once without causing a kerfuffle. I am aware of your short fuse. I even let your trip to visit Bernie and Lola pass without much comment which I thought was very decent of me.

I was hoping you would agree to let the BP incident alone so that I needn't lay out the details of the indignant, self-absolving scapegoating from the holier-than-thou hypocrites who are pervading media at the same time as they drool over the wonderful hats and frocks at Royal Ascot and wave their little flags about in a display of their sick and phoney patriotism which the World Cup, a festival of football, has given them a cheap and easy opportunity to do. Three cheers for M. Anelka.

And I might add, if it's not too much for your worship, that I have no record of kicking over the table and stomping off in six years on A2K. Despite much provocation. In actual fact, it is the atheist, materialist, bleeding heart liberals who are given to such things as soon as a hint is offered of what ****-bags they actually are when the surface of their veneer is scratched lightly.

Your remarks were ridiculous and if you want to make something of it feel free. It was your blood pressure I was concerned about.

So, football. We've got to play the gerries now.

So for a few days at least we'll have to forget how much we love them, so we can better enjoy BEATING THE CRAP OUT OF THEM on Sunday.

It's only a game. But some people get so worked up.
