@McTag,
Iraq was invaded not because of its oil, Saddam had always sold to the west...it was invaded because it threatened all gulf oil, by global price rise either through direct military action or through threatened action.

@Ticomaya,
I suspect it's the haggis. McTag's not that narrowminded.

Having just regained consciousness after Christmas dinner, it occurs to me that my first order of business (well, second, and boy did that feel good) ought to be to pass on, as instructed, Christmas greetings from Tea to George.

@McTag,
Well I think Bernie was trying to keep onside with George, as friends I mean, so that George won't apply his undoubted literary talents to defending his religion which would cause a rupture in the friendship.

@McTag,
What about Clare Short Mac? She was dynamite.

Women eh. The mother of Wayne Bridge's kid has set the cat among the pigeons too but really that's too sordid for me to discuss seeing as what the bone of contention comes down to at the end.

Max Clifford should be put to milking cows. At least that's a respectable way to make a living.

Yes, well done our Clare. Hell hath no fury......best eaten cold.

I think Blair's false edifice is being slowly but surely chipped away.

@georgeob1,

Some of our best contributors fell away. Steve's computer blew up. Smorgs joined a nunnery. Spendy was sectioned again.
I'm in mourning because Scotland snatched another defeat from the jaws of an unlikely victory in Cardiff.

@McTag,
I'm reading Boswell's London Journal Mac. I have just finished the Boswell In Search of a Wife book.

I'm learning about a lot of traditional customs of your forbears.

I hope you have eradicated most of them from your Manchester manners.

@spendius,

Do Americans know what we mean by "sectioned", I wonder.

Which among my forebears' traditional customs do you recommend I eschew, Spendy?

@McTag,
Well--there's rather a lot actually. Trying to find a cure for the clap as one prepares to get married to a lady as sweet and virginal as Peggie Montgomerie.

That one was pretty good Spendi.

I don't know what you folks mean by "sectioned": can't speak for others.

@georgeob1,
It means taken into involuntary custody for one's own benefit or that of others without a trial for a criminal offence. The men in white coats.

It is rare because otherwise we would all be in the asylum.

Since when has Smorgs become another Mother Teresa?
