Hardly. She'll be guided and sheparded all the way being a good little girl being as good as she can. She won't be exhausting the realm of the possible by a long shot.

@dadpad,
That Eliza Carthy has blown us all away here. What a presence at a microphone. What a beautiful woman.

@spendius,

Folk music can be very moving. Not the commercial kind.

I will look at that film this evening. Thanks for posting, Spendy.

carrying burning barrels on ones shoulders is not my idea of a good night out. It was interesting however to imagine the underlying purpose of many of these rituals.
I imagine it takes a certain amount of intestnial to dress up in balck face, wear a short skirt and prance around (with other like minded men) waving your own personal arbour.

I've heard about cheese rolling before
any other explanations?

@dadpad,
The song is I Used To Be Colour Blind by Irving Berlin.

I would start thinking Paganism dp.

Fascinating means a combination of magnetic beauty and terrifying.

@spendius,

Hibernia means "land of winter".

I found that out this week.

@McTag,
And Inverness is forecast to be the warmest part of the UK this weekend.

Have you ever dangled you hand over the side of an inflatable off the west coast of Islay?

@spendius,

I have dangled more than that.
I have sailed through the Hebrides. I have swum in the western seas. I have visited St Kilda, where we were warned not to fall out of the inflatable at midnight. (I played at an impromptu barn dance in the NAAFI on St Kilda, but that's another story).
The waters are cold, to be sure, but the Gulf Stream Drift allows palm trees to grow in various coastal spots on our NW shores.

Hello,
I will be traveling by coach and it's all kind of organised, but thanks walter.

Mctag, Yes, sorry for the patronising list of countries in brackets. I copied and pasted that from a post I sent to my friend.

Spendius: shh.

I quite fancy going to Istanbul on an organised jaunt, so I'm working on Mrs McTag.
Well, I've suggested it anyway.

That's Istanbul, Turkey.
Mwaaaaaaaaahahahaha only joking again.

PQ, your trip sounds fabby. I hope the coach has AC.

@McTag,
Oh--it will have Mac. 40 stomachs digesting strange foods packed into a coach in 90 degrees plus for hours at a time without AC is deemed an infringement of human rights according to the Geneva Convention.

@McTag,
Yeah I hope so too... otherwise it might just be the worst 3 weeks of my life.
Organised things are good for me, since I am going on my own, and being a girl and all.

@McTag,
I consider that going to Istanbul on less than £500 a week, plus expenses, to be beneath my dignity and a sign of my having gone loopy.

@spendius,

Fair enough, different strokes for different folks. I see the spirit of Vasco da Gama or Marco Polo does not burn within your veins. Just think what Marco and Vasco could have achieved if they had our advantages and sunblocker. And travel insurance.

@McTag,
I see I have to catch up, people are travelling. Istanbul, I'd love to go there.

Um, read any Orhan Pamuk, Tag? Or, Jan (James) Morris? I hope you go, so I can follow your descriptions.

There's nothing but a seething mass of humanity osso all trying to get the jump on each other just like here. And it's bloody hot too at this time of year which gets all their nerves on edge.

@spendius,
I'll admit summer isn't my preferred travel time period, and that I'm not a tour person - I'm just too adamant about my own interests, or lack of interests, and like more control. Only child syndrome, you know. CI and I, for example, are direct travel opposites. But I didn't travel until I was a few years older than PQ, and then travelled with girlfriends or boyfriends for a batch of years. Her tour sounds like a good starter to get an overview. And McTag, I trust his travel instincts/requirements.
