@spendius,
Just watched the workers at Sellafield walk out. "If needed, brothers, for a week!" There were three of them on a rigged up podium. The chief Steward spoke well. In the cold early dawn with snow falling and his bare hands on scaffolding pipes...but he didnt bother. He had something to say, and we wanted to listen...

But back in the BBC studio on the News Sofa, the boy/girl duo we telling us to keep warm and explaining the dangers of snow. The woman looked a bit rough round the edges, probably because she had to get up early and had been shagging someone for most of the night. But the valiant BBC Make Up dept. did a great job, patched up her hair and she could read the script. Lord Mandelson we are informed is not pleased. The workers must go back to work and be careful boys and girls dont drive your car today. Cuddle up with a new BBC sit com about teenagers.

Down with the Sofa! All power to the Soviets! Mandelson for the scaffolding pipe!

Today is my birthday. Snow and revolution are in the air. Fantastic!

Thanks Francis. Birthdays come and go. But the British Revolution is permanent! Power to the people. Power is what we want, lots of it, its bloody freezing just now.

@Francis,
Hope you have a nice day, Steve!

(The plane to Stansted started here 1½ hour later [obviously better to wait here], the plane from Brize Norton [stop-over on the way to Middle East] was earlier, though.)

@Steve 41oo,

Yes, Happy Birthday, Stevie old fruit.

BBC: Arctic conditions grip the country!

No, actually, there's a snowfall because it's winter time.
And all London buses are off. And Heathrow is shut.
And most of the Underground is shut. (How does that work?)

Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer by Messrs Brown and Mandelson. And Torres.

We had had the snow a couple of days ago (at first and before: one week with temperatures around -15°C, then snow, then sunny weather below 0°C ... and now 'normalty').
We had been spoiled with those un-winterly conditions the last couple of years, I think!

People enjoy the first "real" winter since 20 years (lifts are running since November: link to a couple of webcams in the nearby mountains).

Snow where the tube is running above surface - plus snow falling down through the grids, I could imagine.

@Walter Hinteler,
Or the Underground drivers couldn't come to work by buses...

@Walter Hinteler,

So the managers couldn't decide something like "Snow is forecast for tonight lads, so let's pay for some overtime, and move 50 trains under cover whereby we can run a service in the morning"

Bloody pillocks.

@McTag,
I've just been watching the elites at play last week at Davos. Let the workers eat snow eh? Just off now to build a barricade, and buy some batteries.

@Steve 41oo,
It's a great pity Steve that you have missed the 50 minute programme about the famous romantic painting of La Liberty guidant le peuple by Eugene Delecroix which was screened on Sky Arts an hour or so ago.

@spendius,
Why? What did it say? Wasn't Delecroix a hopeless romantic? On my birthday I'm reborn a Bolshevik.

@The Pentacle Queen,
Drat. The snow has caused the postponement of the much anticipated Sky Arts production of La Boheme.

@Steve 41oo,
On the contrary, I have been jollying around at a park all day, making a massive snowball and sliding down hills on a tea tray.

@The Pentacle Queen,
I didn't know there were hills in London. It looked as flat as a pancake when I last went there many, many years ago. But not as tasty.

There's no snow where I am. A few flurries is all we got. When I was a kid it snowed every year and I've seen drifts higher than houses. I used to sign my name in snowdrifts pissing. Full stops as well.

I had a Swedish toboggan which I used to polish and it once clocked 80mph after a freezing night had put a friction free surface on the snow. I often wonder how I managed to reach 16.

There is one thing I can say about Guardian Angels and it's that they give you confidence.
