well of course you are right though I hate to admit it. Send in the reserves against Chelsea and WH and bring back the first team to take the FA cup in fine fashion...I'd settle for that.

Now tell me honestly what you thought about Michael Ball's performance (an operative phrase) yesterday?

I think City's image has taken a terrible turn with thuggery by Ben Thatcher, Joey Barton and now this.

We don't need it, and it undermines years of good work done in promoting a fair-play, family-friendly image at the club.

But I cannot understand (except by concluding that professional football is nothing to do with sport) why Roy Keane could seek to injure Alf Inge Haaland, boast about it later in his memoirs, and be praised by his manager. Both of them should have been given their cards and shown the door, I reckon.

I agree with Mac for once. Keane should have been banned from entering any premises controlled by the FA sine die for that tackle and it is a blot on the record that he wasn't. A jockey would have been.

And any premises controlled by the Licensed Victuallar's Association.

Isn't it reflective of how the country is turning at present?

That cowardly act was seen by millions across the globe, a defenceless man on the floor and he decides to stamp on him, hard! Furthermore, he continued with aggressive play throughout the game and got away with a great deal. Manchester City have a lot on their plate at present, Mac basically sums it up in his post above. Personally I think The FA should take very strong action indeed, to say nothing of the clubs responsibility in letting the witnesses see that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

But will they?

I know of a man who kicked his own father about so viciously that the poor soul died some eighteen months after the event. No charges were brought against his son. Some three years or so later, the same character beat a defenceless drugged and drunken mother of two children so badly that he killed her. He surrendered to the police and was in custody for some eighteen months before his trial, Guilty, five years in prison.. He was out within two years.

Until justice is melted out correctly and justice is seen to be done in this country, you can expect to see violence on the streets, homes and soccer fields rise.

The smoking ban in pubs will increase the drinking at home, uncontrolled; violence towards women and children will increase in this sector also.

On a brighter scale, if your in your 80's and object to paying your council tax, you can be sure this country will get really tough with those offenders and bang them up for months!

Great isn't it!

well clearly haarland should not have got in the way of keane's boot as ball should not have stamped on ronaldo...if you see what i mean#

but the fa disciplinary committee meet tomorrow so we shall see

I was impressed with the girls today. Played in the true spirit of the game. Of course they are not as quick or aggressive, but they make up for it with tactical skill and ability....well almost.

I thought the only real difference was the nail varnish, not all the boys wear it.

And you should have seen the snooker.

Two men trying to beat each other to death in the most civilised manner imaginable.

In the 27th frame it was 44-48 to Selby, who is English.

A safety exchange took place which made "cat and mouse" look positively Darwinian, which is to say "out of date".

The audience, all headbangers like me, were enthralled.

It was as boring as boring gets when two men are trying to beat each other to death in the most civilied manner yet thought up.

The yellow was the problem. It often is.

The other balls were so placed that it looked a piece of piss to clear up if you potted that.

One looked forward to slowly going under with the day's wearinesses and waking up to find them still at it wearing oxygen masks and shooting up on speed.

Then the Scottish git, Higgins by name, potted it but didn't get position so they started another safety exchange on the green. We ordered pints.

Then the English hero potted that but due to a bit of bad luck didn't get position either so they started another safety exchange on the brown.

Just as the landlord shouted "Have you no homes to go to", as they do, the Higgins person fluked the brown getting out of a brilliantly laid snooker but he didn't do it good enough and lost position.

So they started on the blue.

Then we got thrown out. The landlord reckoned they could be a few hours on that the way the pink and black were placed but I have since been informed that the Scots git gitted it and our lad won the frame.

Which made it a tense situation, as usual.

I think my bedside telly might be on a while tonight.

Ball told City's website: "I deeply regret what I did and have accepted the charge without hesitation. I have also sent a personal apology to Cristiano."

A bit of over-reaction perhaps, Steve? Have you ever seen Vinny Jones, Chopper Harris or Roy Keane/Jimmy Case/Kenny Burns/Remi Moses/Norman Hunter in action?

Ball is very minor-league in thuggery in comparison. IMHO.

I remember Mr Hunter at Leeds. The rest of them are fairies by the side of him and a few of his colleagues.

I'm going fishing today, although it's a bit bright.

I made a new priest out of a berberis branch (green collection today)

McTag, you are becoming an artist in your retirement, could you come to my garden and make a) Tony Blair out of a prickly pear b) a muscly fireman out of a box tree?

well good luck with fish and topiary. Tony Blair might be joining you soon.

Why is it a bit too bright for fishing? I bought two pairs of sunglasses recently for £20.
