I gather that Chelsea didn't win? Bugger!

Didn't get much publicity here.

How about Portsmouth, though.

And Schwarzer's leaving Middlesborough!

Cripes Steve. What's up with your memory.

I told you I was forced to back Utd. And I also told you that the bet was on 90 minutes and to buy Utd was 0.2. So I lost 0.2 of a goal.

If you buy shares there's a spread. Otherwise no City.

You can sell oil you know. If you think the price has peaked it's the thing to do. You can buy or sell anything. That's why they import prostitutes from areas where they are cheaper.

My goodness.

Right, I've just come back from a few days in Borrowdale with the in-laws. Great hotel, great weather, stunning scenery.
Went for a sail on Derwentwater. Marvellous.
Anyone been to John Ruskin's house on Coniston? Great.

Fantastic.

I feel like the bloke on The Fast Show.

400.9 miles this time.

About 400 is near enough for us Mac.

You must be feeling a bit like a pinball by now.

And with the in-laws too. I hide whenever they arrive and as for seeking them out!!!

I have realised recently, after a few years of suspicion, that my IQ is plummeting. I am getting stupider by the minute and it accelerates in the pub. They have started using sign language because shouting into each other's ears has proved unsatisfactory.

It is obvious that the majority determines how intelligence is measured and that they will concoct tests which prove that they are all really, really intelligent like when you see two schoolies embracing when they have opened the envelope with their exam results inside.

If I live much longer I expect to be in single figures.

Are you talking about bad hearing, Spendy, and noisy pubs? Certainly if you can't hear well, many will treat you as being thick. I know about that.

Of course, I AM thick as well.

A story...and nonsequitur...when we were in Orkney, and at a beauty spot with marvellous views over the beaches & ocean, I got talking to an American fellow guest from our hotel, and asked him whether he had been into the Earl's House (the remains of a fourteenth-century manor house, which could be seen from where we were standing).

"No," he replied, "it's only a ruin, isn't it."

Andy Warhol wouldn't get out of the car to see the pyramid in Mexico his entourage had made a trip to.

"It's only a pile of stones Bob", he said.

Better to look at the marvelous views of the beach and ocean. Unless poking around in ruins is your thing, I suppose.

Hmm, especially since 12th-century hall-houses are to be found on any corner in the USA.

We have ruins over here too. Are your ruins better because they're older?

I've seen some.

No, "our" ruins aren't aren't better (actually, the bishop's and earl's palace there isn't a 'total ruin').

I agree, some people aren't interested in history and culture.
And certainly everyone his the right to do in his holidays what he likes best.

It's okay.

(Off now to a pueblo, which is habitated at least since the 12th century ... not many ruins there, but I'll look at them as well.)

Yes Walter, go check out the Pueblo Indian reservation - quite interesting
to see how the Indians live there. Then you'll go over to Tico and check
out the Pala Indian reservation in Scottsdale. Have a soda with Tico! Very Happy

By the way, California hardly has any ruins. We tear down everything
that's beyond the age of 40. Cool

Walter doesn't drink alcohol, Tico.
I forgot, he could look at all the nice FLWright architecture there too,
and it's the Pima Indians, not the Pala, isn't it?

Some might say so. Perhaps "better" is not the right word. Orkney is a venue for many who are interested in its archaeology, going back some 5000 years or so as already mentioned.

Maybe we should get a roof on that Earl's palace, and some double glazing to make it more fitting for American visitors.

Oh- come on Cal. It's not that bad surely? In our pub 40 year-old ruins are at a premium. When we see one we crowd around elbowing each other.

You could fix it up with some breeze blocks and some tarp.
