Crankypants! That is perfect for Spendy. Somebody should start a "Crankypants" thread. For grumpy old gits, and those in a permantly rattled-cage condition.

Gee- this is easy.

If only I had learned this method of stroking my own ego with my fingertips years ago. Think of all the study and thinking I would have been saved from.

Do you need scented lubricants Mac to get the most out of the technique?

I'm out of my league, swapping badinage with a master. When will I ever learn?

Hello Spendy old bean. Enjoying this nice weather?

I just bought myself a pair of serious trousers today, because we're going fishing to Orkney next week.

It's a bit sweaty in the glass lean-to Mac? I had to take my long-johns off.

Do you need special trousers to go fishing in Orkney?

At the fag end of my Romantic period I once went for two weeks to Islay.

I was back home in 3 days. Nice island- pity about the people. I nearly got had up for heresy.

Probably not, but modern kit makes life a whole lot easier.

If your sitting for hours in a boat, and it rains, denim jeans won't hack it. They'll hack you.

I noticed on the News tonight, it was the first item and I do try to watch that once a day to see if anything dramatic has happened, not having been aware of Princess Di's demise until the funeral got the racing put back, that the Confederation of British Quarriers, 6 Leggers and Allied and Associated Trades ( CBQLAAT) has produced a report showing that unless we spend a £1bn, and if we dont know that means yet it's Gawdellpus, we are going to have to watch harrowing scenes, when the torrential downpours come, of our fellow Brits who have chosen to live on low-lying land because it is cheap, pissballing about in canoes rescuing little old ladies, and their little dog, from first floor windows and tragic pub scenes where the topers are in waders discussing the Norwich Union.

I think you probably fell asleep during the news and woke up during Flood, while under the influence of the magic mushrooms.

This connection is worth a look. Copy the link if it doesn't take you there with a click and put it in your browser.

Make sure you scroll down first and follow the instructions on how to use the map though.

Not much happening in China apparently.

Probably because they don't allow independent journalism.

Somebody compiled that....why?

Is that one of the co-named islands north of Scotland? I once flew around there while we were operating in the southern Norwegian Sea. Very memorable, green, but very rugged, windswept islands; lots of birds.

What's it like there?

My guess is it's rugged, windswept, and has a lot of birds. But let's wait for McT's assessment ...

Green but very rugged windswept islands.

It used to be part of Norway, because the vikings were very tough hombres who conquered everywhere, but it came to Scotland as part of a princess' dowry in about 1300.

I can't speak from personal experience of the actual place because so far, I've only sailed past it. Few trees can grow, it's too windy most of the year.

Skara Brae, 5000 years old, check it out.

(I believe phrases like that are helpful to Americans)

Laughing Laughing I'll get you for that....

"Orkney is an archipelago of 70 or so islands and currently 17 of them are inhabited. Around 20,000 people live in Orkney, with most people living in the main towns of Kirkwall and Stromness.

Orkney covers an area of 974 square kilometres, with more than half being taken up by the Mainland of Orkney. The islands are about 85 km from north to south and 37 km from east to west.

The islands are low-lying, gently sloping and richly fertile with the exception of the island of Hoy, which is high and rugged. The climate is temperate, warmed by the Gulf Stream, with the driest months being April, May and June.

The quiet sandy beaches, stunning scenery, abundance of wildlife, fresh quality cuisine and warm welcoming hospitality make these islands an ideal place ...."

So that'll be nice, I hope.

Smile

So after the Orkney islands its the Shetlands...and then the Faroes (not to be confused with chocolate islands thats Fareros) which are sort of Danish I think, so which is the most northerly island in the British Isles?

Answers please on the back of a post card to HM Queen, Buckingham Palace, The Mall, London SW1.
