Mr B Wallis in Manchester invented a tea bomb which you just bounce off the surface of the water in the cup....the resulting infusion is a disappointment, though.

He invented the Bismarck herring.

In the circles I frequent Bismark has two distinct meanings.

1- To masturbate. That was the great man's weakness it seems.

2- It's a short-priced horse which a bookie doesn't fancy and lays it for all he dare take.

Good evening Gentlemen,

My teabags don't have posh little cardboard handles on to dunk with.

Place the tea-bag in the cup, let it brew, take out with fingers, chuck tea-bag in sink. No worries. Smile

Pleasant evening to you all.

We're posh in our house, and always fish the used teabag out with a spoon.
Anyway you'd burn your fingers otherwise, no?
Actually I lie, we make the tea in a teapot and just tip out the bags later.

Izzie, you look uncommomly like Natasha Kaplinski. Are you really her?
I think you've got a very nice bod, but an attitude problem if you are.

Bismark was a tosser? That remark could get you a very nasty sword cut in certain circles, Spendy, and you wouldn't be able to screw in your monocle, if I can put it like that.

A could imagine that some anti-German propaganda said so.

But otherwise it's not lower ranked than an urban legend.

I really don't look like her (but that would be good if I did) - and some may say I have an attitude problem - but it's a good attitude Smile

(heck - it annoys people when I'm smiling - but hey, I'm happy)

What was the Lord Mancroft thing about Walt. I'm stumped.

I read that about Bismark somewhere. A newspaper I think. Years ago. It was an article on the subject and not a snidey aside.

I gave up buying newspapers years ago too. I peruse someone's else's Sunday Times most weeks looking for items for A2K because I know how much faith you all have in Grub Street productions.

Izzie- you are far too nice a lady to allow yourself to read my posts. I recommend you pass them by. And I hope you do.

Mr. Spendius - everyone is entitled to an opinion - and I do not judge you or anyone else on the board. In fact, I have no right to judge anyone here.

Thank you for your kind words which I believe are meant. I will heed your "warning" when required, as I did the other night when you didn't like me "hoping" your evening was pleasant. I don't like to do unpleasant - it's not in my nature these days.

Other than that, my posts are not of a serious nature on this thread - just me being me, a BritGirl down in Devon who wears her heart on her sleeve. When I have something that hit's a little close to home, of which at present you are probably all unaware of my "pet peeves" - then my voice may be a little louder and not quite as sweet!

Believe me, if anyone posts on certain systems in this country, which I have very strong views about because of my personal circumstances, then I will most likely state my point of view. I can do loud - very loud. However, my thoughts at present are to help me achieve a positive balance in my life, get well - be strong, and, yep, I smile a lot. Very Happy

(Steve - fawning back at ya mate Laughing )

What's you take on these American elections?

They are trying to decide who is the most important person on the planet after all.

Everybody should have a view about that. It's irresponshible not to have.

Politics not my forte, I'm afraid.

I have veiws - but they for a very "idealistic" world. I do live in "cloud cuckoo land" after all.

My feeling on politicians are - they scare the heck out of me - my dealings with local politicians who I asked for help for my child and family, did not - could not - help me because the "systems" are too "solid" - me and mine weren't important enough in the bigger picture.

My views on Americans - every American I have ever met, and that's a number considering I lived there for 4 years, was kind and considerate and I can not speak a bad word about anyone I know or knew there.

The politicians - my views, as I say, are "idealistic" and I don't think any politician can share my views - or else they wouldn't be a politician.

American politics - scares the heck out of me.

I have not switched on a TV or read/listened to the news since January 1st 2008. I am not brainless - or ditzy - or dopey. This is something I have had to do to "survive" in the world I am living in - it may be irresponsible, but I am here and surviving. My family would probably consider my lack of opinion on such matters - a good thing right now.

Just the way I need to be right now - opinions I have - a lot of them - voicing them right now - won't help me or mine - so, silent I remain for that purpose.

I'm not so sure about that. If I don't understand something I don't start going around calling it names.

A lady came on BBC2 late last night and started explaining these "elections" and how they worked. After about five minutes she looked at the camera a bit strangely and said that that was how she understood it but you could tell by her real live emoticion that she wasn't guaranteeing anything.

I always think that if the smoothed out growth rate is around 3% and the beer is still flowing we must somehow have chosen correctly.

I don't worry too much about the process being an inscrutable enigma or even irreducibly complex as long as those basic parameters of civilised life are strictly adhered to.

It fascinates me how it's done though.
