Who actually wants Sharia law recognised in Britain? Not muslim women who get a raw deal. Nor a majority of muslim men I guess. Not the European Court of Human Rights which condemned Sharia law as "incompatible with democracy". Certainly not homosexuals. Or the UK government, or any established political party. Just a few imams who will feel satisfied with their new status, and the advance of Islam. Oh and the Archbishop of Comedy.

Actually I dont mind if they have their own legal system. Its only recognising what the Archbish said was "unavoidable". So long as it doesnt affect me (which wailing from mosques does) they can have as much sharia law as they want. In fact I spot a new revenue stream for Sky tv...Sharia Law Action. Punishments on pay per view only.

ok I'll talk to myself

Actually been chortling to myself all day over the Sun headline

"What a Burkha" counterposing the Archbishop and a Muslim woman giving the traditional English fingers sign.

A classic.

Yesterday...hello....anyone there?

I had to buy a kettle. What a sad life I lead, more on kettle exploits later.

I've not read the dailies yet, got too much of a hangover at the mo. Went to an interesting gathering in Didsbury last night.
Anyhoo about our tolerance and PC matters and all that. Seems like the Archbish has stirred up a right hornet's nest.
Most Brits, I think I can say without much fear of contradiction, don't want an alien culture implanted. We don't like to see women going about like daleks on our streets. We don't like people here who despise us. We don't like fathers sending their British sons to Pakistani madrassars, for whetever reason, because we are suspicious of the motives of the clerics. We don't want arabic chants broadcast over our cities.

I don't like having people here who have no interest in learning English. I say if they want to be included, fine, let them take part.
I was not happy when years ago, Manchester City Library started to have a section in Chinese. PC nonsense, I think. When did the Chinese ever need any help from anybody? They are very self-reliant.
All the hoo-hah about translation services, bollocks.
We cannot have an integrated society if we encourage a polyglot mentality. If this carries on, we'll end up like bloody Kenya or Los Angeles.

It is with this in mind that the reaction to the words of the learned Archbish has occurred. Whatever useful function Sharia courts fulfil in their society, we are not willing to cede any more of our culture, and the people are revolting.
And so this utterance from Lambeth Palace may have served a useful function.

Absolutely!

He's a silly old fart.

The glory of Britain is the rule of law. Law honed in various secular societies. I am in favour of those Turks who don't want to give in to the scarf-wearers. Religion - bah, humbug!

What ought to be exercising people's minds is how on earth did a bloke as thick as that rise through the ranks to become Archbishop of Canterbury.

I never would have thought Clary was in favour of random promiscuity. I thought she was a well brought up refined lady.

Africans have magnificent teeth, very white, very hard, and they are a bugger to pull out.
I have some inside info from the Dental School in Moss Side.

Luckily not much goes wrong with them.

Maybe the Swazi guy had gum trouble. The British diet is very unhealthy, being curry.

Good side India and the Aussies look on the downgrade a bit.

I see that the media's attempt to wind up some disrespect at Old Trafford didn't work.

I enjoyed listening to Radio Manchester today, for the football commentary from Old Trafford.

The fans' comments after the game were entertaining, including one text message

"We made a noise in the Library of Dreams".

Super Blues.

It was better on TV Mac. Colour, atmosphere, replays, class commentary.

Were you stuck in a snowdrift?

When I watch football live, I miss the replays.
No, my pal with the Sky connection was away, and I didn't go to a pub.
I had to enjoy it all on my lonesome.
Still good, though, and I've recorded MoTD to see later.

The fans on the Radio Manchester phone-in were impressed and grateful that the silent tribute was impeccably observed.
A very moving occasion for those who were there,

The schools are out at the moment, so Steve is probably away.
This is disappointing, because Manchester United fans should ideally be standing by their guns to be shot at at times like these, which only come round very infrequently.
