for lunch

the physician explained about hypertension and calcium channel inhibitors. The pharmacist arranged his chips in size order. I drank two pints of beer.

Much Hadham, Hertfordshire, eh?

What's the origin of that placename, Steve?
Its something of a tourist trap. Very pretty little place, but everything's overpriced.

Spendy, regarding citrous fruit, just sometimes your supercilious attitude gets the better of me. Smile

The address of the police station btw is Letsby Avenue, Much Hadham, Herts.

I suppose I ought to explain the cricket thing.

In ye olde days if visiting cricket teams beat the local one they were deemed to have rights to the local maidens. The wicket was originally a gate which had to be stormed and the rules have been refined over the years to reduce bloodshed. The basic idea was to encourage exogamy and the survival of the fittest.

Hence all the sexual innuendo attached to the language of cricket and the utter ridiculousness of women trying to play it.

If the village under consideration had a hopeless cricket team it would become known as Much Hadham in the lore of the surrounding villages and it would obviously avoid the dangers of inbreeding and of passing on genes defective enough not to be able to play cricket.

Cycling, being an individual sport, nothing of the sort applies.

Hey-- did you see that lady beside Mr Cameron on the front bench during PMQs yesterday with half her tits hanging out sat amid chaps all buttoned up to the Adam's apple. A bit undignified I thought. I've never seen Her Majesty in such an exhibitionist mode of apparel.

Her presence is due to the specious argument deployed by a statistically insignificant number of females in media, most of whom owe their positions to favouritism of one sort or another, that the mass of English roses, such as one sees in news items about late night Police activities in city centres, feel safer when women are occupying the commanding heights. And you can't get more specious than that.

Thank you. What does it signify?

Son has a project at school. Plan and budget for a trip abroad.

Part of his trip will be a campervan tour of Ireland. (dont ask me).

Where can he camp to avoid camping fees. Are there caravan parks. Are there National parks, state forests, commons, woods, or similar areas? can he spend a night in a highway layby or roadside stop.

Is Northern Ireland a problem for travellers. ie car searches, no go zones?

What should be avoided. What is a must see.

Thank you kindly

that its not spelled "citrous" as wot i originially rote.

btw I thought you said it was her Maj with a low cut dress sitting next to cameron. Thats why I asked what she was doing there.

dp will attempt to come back with answers in due course. But just off the top of my head, camping sites are plentiful and costs reasonable...not worth trying to save money on that imo.

Tourists are made very welcome in Ireland N and S. There are no "no go" areas. On the other hand some discretion is required in talking politics...as you would in any other foreign country out of politeness if nothing else.

The currency in the Republic is euro, sterling in N Ireland of course. Dont get involved in smuggling petrol across the border!

much more info here

When Jaqui Smith became Home Secretary, her first few TV interviews were principally noted for the amount of cleavage she was showing. They found the message was getting lost, along with the breadcrumbs down that grand canyon, and so she was asked to tone it down a little. In Saudi or Yemen she would be beheaded of course.

What the heck, if you've got it, flaunt it, say I. It can only add to the gaiety of nations.

There are some Irish people around (but this thread is Bruddush!)

I think in Eire they would prefer you to use designated camp sites (for which see the Camping Club website) but the Irish authorities and the Irish people are a good deal more laissez-faire than elsewhere on these islands.

Buy him the book McCarthy's Bar to read before he goes.

Okay-- deny the poor kid the best possible source of info. Google has more stuff on a subject like that than this thread has any hope of ever providing.

We are interested in intellectual matters not the whimsical plans of some Aussie kid with too much money to spend. Bondi beach is world renowned. What's up with him going there? Has visiting Ireland got social cachet or something. It's a dump in my view. It's pissing down half the time and it isn't just politics you have to avoid spouting about. I saw a waif begging in the middle of Dublin. A little girl about 8 with matchstick legs and a wan expression. And the cops are a bit fearsome.

Fair enough. Why didn't she get the lot out then? Half out isn't flaunting. It's teaser stuff.

A strong possibility, I'll PM you.

We're not in Ireland of course. Does that matter?

That suggests that the German population, or the swing voters at least, are tit men.

Nope it doesnt matter, You're a touch closer to Ireland than he is though.

Its all a school project teaching about the big wide world, saving, budgeting, and a bit of a reality check on money in general.

If he goes via Manchester, it would be cheaper. It's a lovely drive (short by Aussie standards) to Holyhead, where he can get the ferry over to Ireland.
