I've just been abused by a 'customer'...

She called me a SLAG!!!

I asked her if that's the best she could do.

Made me shakey though. I hate my job.

Copy of my report, the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Saw customer for 13 week interview. She objected to weekly signing and her signing time of 9.20. Explained the conditions of JSA. Customer stated that she didn't want to sign so early. I offered to re-negotiate her Jobseekers Agreement and send it to the Decision Makers for a decision on availability. She started swearing - using '****' and '*******' and "I'm not ******* coming in at that time". I explained that jobs usually start for 9.00a.m. She said "this isn't a ******* job!" This was in full hearing of my colleague (*********) her customer that she was trying to interview and the customers young child. I advised her not to swear, particularly as there was a young child around. She called me a ******* slag in a loud voice and said she would stab me in the face with the pen she was holdingI requested intervention by the CCO *********. He immediately stepped in and removed her from my desk and the public area.

You have to admit smorgsie that requiring people to sign on in the middle of the night is an attempt by the Civil Service to force everyone to adhere to its timetables. It could be seen as an infringement of civil liberties.

9.20 am implies that she would have to be in bed for 11 pm the previous evening to allow for travelling time and putting on her make-up if her general health is not to be put at risk.

Some people are congenitally unable to accept the discipline of the "work station".

Bubbles in the jam-pan if you remember.

I'm not congenitally designed to slog my guts out, yearning to be outside, tied to a desk for most of the day, dealing with congenitially lazy, hopelessly disenfranchised and chronically ignorant (in the true sense) people. And some of the young women I see are hard as nails, just waiting to be within their 11th week of confinement, so they can come off Jobseekers and go on Income Support, claiming as a single parent, whilst the inevitable short-arsed, shaven-headed, skull faced, skinny hoodie waits for them outside. They're prolific breeders, the poor, I should know, I'm one of five. I despair... makes me feel old, what's happening? How did this sub-class happen? And SO aggressive. What's the generation they are bringing up going to be like? It's almost dickensian, the division of the classes.

But having said that...

The vast majority of people I see, just want to work and contribute to the collective. And I must say, most of my nicest customers are the over 40's starting all over again after becoming redundant after a lifetime of clock punching, with remarkably little bitterness, pro-active in their own jobseeking, ready and eager to learn new skills, trying so hard to adjust to a world without work and the routine it brings.

It's hard to explain to them that while they were busy working, bringing up their families, having the occassional holiday abroad, hoping to give their kids something better then they had - the world changed, and it's unlikely they will ever know those kind of wages and job security ever again.

But still, the service industry has a lot to offer...

Along with minimum wage.

Not that I'm bitter, just feeling sorry for myself and very pissed off.

Phew! That was a load off...

Thanks

Just another ****. This country is full of them. Round the pub earlier an eighty year old man engaged me in converstation about a referrendum on the EU. This was his intro for general xenophobia and disgusting racism. I went home, looked up a few things, printed out the following which I was going to hand to him, but he'd gone so I left it behind the bar

Quote:
Not only was I offended by your derogatory remarks against Germans and the German people, but under the The Public Order Act, 1986 it was probably a criminal offense.

Part 3 Section 17 of the POA defines racial hatred as hatred against a group of persons defined by reference to colour, race, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origins.

And incitement to racial hatred is a serious offence.

The Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 increased the maximum penalty for incitement to racial hatred from two to seven years' imprisonment.

Calling all Germans "a disease" is an example of hate speech, and is almost certainly in contravention of the POA.

I therefore seriously suggest that you do not use language of that kind in future. Or certainly not within my earshot.

Thank you.

Normally one would have respect for someone of that age, his war service etc etc. But I'm not taking **** like that from anyone any longer. He's no better than the woman abusing Smorgs imo.

That's terrible, steviegandhi!

People like that are rare, I hope...

Try not to think about it, have a brew or a shandy, or anything to get rid of the bad taste.

Night everyone.

Night suzzy.

You see!

smorgsie has gone to bed and the night is young. Then she's up at the crack of dawn and expects everybody else to be. It isn't beyond the bounds of possibility that the young lady concerned is giving the CCO who removed her from the public area a fine old time as we speak and will be all bleary-eyed when smorgsie is bouncing around on the balls of her feet.

These Civil Servants will be having "lights out" at 10 pm before you know it. We're on the Gordon Brownstone grindstone now. Whistle while you work. The ratebusters are back in town.

Steve- I don't think the old guy could be prosecuted for a conversation with you in a pub. Or would be anyway. He didn't place those words you say he said on a public forum.

I'm coming to the conclusion that they are all too common in england. But thanks for the offer of a brew or a shandy. I'll settle for a brandy. Nighty night smorgsie, sleep well.

Well there were others listening. However I agree, most unlikely any charges would be pressed. But if my note puts the wind up him, all well and good. And if that sounds like bullying of an old man, tough. I'm bullying for whats right.

Regarding Smorgs, she's still reading and watching, probably your every move spendy...you must be petrified.

I prefer "equivocal" to "petrified" in the event that smorgsie is watching my every move.
