9.20 am implies that she would have to be in bed for 11 pm the previous evening to allow for travelling time and putting on her make-up if her general health is not to be put at risk.
Some people are congenitally unable to accept the discipline of the "work station".
Bubbles in the jam-pan if you remember.
I'm not congenitally designed to slog my guts out, yearning to be outside, tied to a desk for most of the day, dealing with congenitially lazy, hopelessly disenfranchised and chronically ignorant (in the true sense) people. And some of the young women I see are hard as nails, just waiting to be within their 11th week of confinement, so they can come off Jobseekers and go on Income Support, claiming as a single parent, whilst the inevitable short-arsed, shaven-headed, skull faced, skinny hoodie waits for them outside. They're prolific breeders, the poor, I should know, I'm one of five. I despair... makes me feel old, what's happening? How did this sub-class happen? And SO aggressive. What's the generation they are bringing up going to be like? It's almost dickensian, the division of the classes.
But having said that...
The vast majority of people I see, just want to work and contribute to the collective. And I must say, most of my nicest customers are the over 40's starting all over again after becoming redundant after a lifetime of clock punching, with remarkably little bitterness, pro-active in their own jobseeking, ready and eager to learn new skills, trying so hard to adjust to a world without work and the routine it brings.
It's hard to explain to them that while they were busy working, bringing up their families, having the occassional holiday abroad, hoping to give their kids something better then they had - the world changed, and it's unlikely they will ever know those kind of wages and job security ever again.
But still, the service industry has a lot to offer...
Along with minimum wage.
Not that I'm bitter, just feeling sorry for myself and very pissed off.
Phew! That was a load off...
Thanks
