Hello everyone.
In the last three months i have put on about 55pounds. And i think its just getting worse.
I used to be about 130pounds, I am 5'10" so if thats any indication of where I am at. I'm 26, Female.
I used to be very motivated and do quite a lot of exercise, now i dont do anything and find it really difficult to motivate myself... i have also gained a chocolate obsession... when i get stressed i need to eat. I have a chocolate bar about once a day.
I recently joined a gym, and find that i havent even gone at all this week... I am really tired lately. I went for a good couple of weeks training every day and i didnt loose a single pound! So its really hard to keep going...
I need ideas for motivation, help, whatever.
You need to see a doctor, quick weight gain can be a sign of illness. 130lbs is slim for 5'10'', but one extra chocolate bar is not going to add 55lbs in 3 months. I suggest you start writing down everything you eat and bring it with you to your doctor's appointment.
Hi SUNNYSHINE and welcome to A2K.
Is there more stress in your life now? You mention stress eating, so it's good that you recognize that that's a trigger, but are you getting that trigger more frequently now?
A few other quick things off the top of my head -- did you go on birth control pills? That can account for about 10 lbs. or so -- it isn't all of this but I doubt that it's just one cause, anyway. What about a job or other life change? Are you more sedentary than you were 3 months ago, e. g. do you have a more sedentary job, or do you maybe commute solely by car and not with any walking, such as to a bus stop? What about thyroid issues? If your thyroid is underperforming, it's harder to lose weight (and maddeningly easy to gain it). Any new medications? Some can cause weight gain or sluggishness, which doesn't help in that area. Plus there's also the question -- you don't need to answer this, to protect your own privacy, although you might want to at least privately think about it -- are you depressed? Depressed people are more sedentary, may eat more if it's a comfort, and generally don't have motivation to do things like go to a gym. There's also Seasonal Affective Disorder. February can often feel like the longest month if Winter feels like it's neverending.
Anyway, the upshot of this is that I'm suggesting you might want to speak with your doctor about your overall health, including stress and your mental state. I am not suggesting that you are barking mad or ready to jump off a cliff but you may be feeling down and it might help to talk to someone if that turns out to be part of the issue. Good for you for noticing changes and being proactive and best of luck to you to find the cause and a solution that works for you.
