Salzburg couldn't be, because of Athens 2004, Turin 2006. Europe's turn was done.
Now, Vancouver 2010 means less chances for New York 2012.

Staging the Olympics is great for a city--as long as it's some other city. There was a short-lived effort to bring 'em to Seattle a few years ago. I was one of those who was less than excited about the prospect...

I disagree. It is usually great for the city. A boost.
The exception is Canadian: Montreal got into a terrible debt, but that was before Big Sponsor Times.

I know.
(My college buddy and my aunt have an agreement that should NYC get the '12 bid we'll go. Doesn't look good though )

If I remember correctly, the stadium built for the olympics also had some design defects, and it can't be used now. c.i.

They were really happy! The roof almost took off from that Sport Hall.
Congratulations, although i prefer the Summer Games.

I kinda like the Winter Games too--get to see some sports you don't see every day (Curling, Biathalon, etc).
Also, they seem lower-key:)

I don't know, d'Artagnan. I think Boston merchants would give their eye teeth to get something like that -- Winter or Summer -- over here. The city's all agog about the Democratic National Convention being in Boston next year. Events like that mean untold millions in tourist dollars.
I was in Atlanta last year and it's amazing what the Olympics has done for the image of that city.
