In my opinion it's just to make tennis more popular, besides I don't see how can anybody practice for a role of a tennis player in some months & actually make it look like you really play like a pro. Besides the player had to be a woman, wonder why Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
Rolling Eyes (not that i have anything against women)

I don't believe the movies can actually capture the essence of tennis, besides the only thing it'll do is give a misconception of tennis.

What do you guys think about it?
Is this attempt to make tennis more popular?
Can hollywood actually capture the essence of tennis on a movie?

More info bout this movie:

WIMBLEDON
Status: Filming begins in the UK June 2003

A British Romantic comedy staring Paul Bettany and Kirsten. Filming is due to begin in June 2003. Kirsten will play a profesional American Tennis Player. Long touted as a starring vehicle for Hugh Grant, the tennis-obsessed picture will see Working Title's Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, David Livingstone and Mary Richards creating yet another typically British comedy to live up to their track record, which includes Bridget Jones's Diary, Notting Hill and last year's About A Boy.

So it's a romantic comedy with tennis as a sideline, how humillianting for tennis, selling it's soul for just a little more fans, this is just a lame a attempt to commercialize tennis.

With special fx, body doubles and computer graphics, Hollywood can pretty much capture anything on film and make it seem real. Tennis wouldn't be any more difficult than, say, learning to dance like John Travolta did so many years ago.
I read that Serena Williams was offered a part. She turned it down saying that she was too busy actually playing tennis to pretend to play tennis. Laughing
I think a "tennis" movie is a good thing. Same as football, baseball and any other sport we've seen in various films throuout the years. What's so special about tennis? I'm sure that those who play will flock to see how they're represented on screen. It's a first and long overdo, I say.
