I heard on MTV yesterday that Will Smith is producing a movie based on the life of tennis great Arthur Ashe.. and Nick Cannon is playin Ashe.. I mean come.. I seriously doubt that Nick Cannon is a good enough actor to play the part of such a huge figure in sports and civil rights!

I think that's an insult to the legacy of Arthur Ashe, myself. But, since Will Smith thought he could be Muhammad Ali, I guess casting a lightweight D-List celebrity like Nick Cannon as someone as big in mind, heart and spirit as Arthur Ashe makes sense to him.

I think Will Smith should be Ashe -- he can produce and act, right?

If you asked him, he'd probably say he could (also direct, wardrobe, light, do the special effects, advertise, and payroll it). I heard him say - and this is no joke - that he could be president if he wanted to. Definitely a legend in his own mind.

This doesn't sound so bad to me...Nick Cannon certainly resembles Ashe and with the right props, (hair, glasses) I think he could pull it off in that department. As far as his acting, I've only seen one thing that he's done, Drumline, but it doesn't mean that's ALL that he can do. I think he may just surprise us.

Also, I thought Will Smith did a fine job as Ali.

Absolutely.

Who can you see playing Arthur Ashe?

Love Mos Def but he's too short, IMO. Arthur Ashe was long and graceful. Also, there was a youthful freshness about AA that Mos, in his thirties now, no longer has.

You could be right, but Ashe was 31 when he won Wimbleton. A younger Will Smith might have brought it across, but not going to work now.

That's right. Arthur did enter the tennis arena rather late. Mid-20's I think. hmmmm...I'm still not feeling Mos Def, tho.

I've met Ali. Will Smith is no Ali.

He might make a good Arthur Ashe though.
