Xbox Live Connection Keeps Screwing Up

Hi, I have my Xbox 360 hooked up to my router with a network cable, but many instances in the game it'll say I have a bad connection for some reason... which doesn't make sense because I have it directly hooked up to the router. So I was just wondering if I was doing something wrong, and is there a way to establish a strong internet connection to my Xbox 360? Thanks
