'Del Cielo'
(for Adela Genevieve)
What fury in those flailing limbs!
What spirit bursting out to meet the world!
They thought that you were fragile when you came,
but oh what fire inside a three pound frame!
Meet your tired mother girl,
and learn from whence you came:
a line of strong women.
...No shrinking violets, victims, or plain Janes.
You got here just in time my little Del,
This sorry planet's sliding into Hell
and prays for sturdy hearts like
yours to stop its fall.
PS
Pretty, tiny, baby girly
will you always be so early?
-xo grandpa
jjorge--
A proud grandpapa has done his granddaughter proud.
Congratulations, happy Grampy. Welcome, Adele Genevieve!
thanks Noddy! Thanks osso! Nice to see you both!
You too, kiddo. Been to Seattle lately? Miss seeing you here on a2k.
Nope, I haven't been to Seattle. I'm perched here in the Blue Ridge mtns.
I got part of the way to ABQ though...
...well, I got to a BBQ anway. ~(:-)
I was confused - it's not Seattle but SF that you have family in, right?
Wow, very nice, jjorge! And congratulations.
Thanks soz! Nice to seeya!
osso, my brother used to live in SF but he and wife and kids moved to Blacksburg VA. They are the ones who enticed me to move to the Blue Ridge (I have some cool pictures if I only knew how to post them here)
'Del Cielo' addendum:
Someone asked me what 'Cielo' means. Here is the whole story:
Cielo means 'sky' or 'heaven' ...in this case the latter.
Del means 'from' as in: Del Monte ( 'from the mountain' )
BUT, 'cielo' has another, colloquial meaning, ie. 'dear' or 'darling'
AND 'Del' is also a nickname that my son in law bestowed on Adela when she was born.
SO, the title is a play on words meaning both: 'from heaven' and 'Del darling'
jjorge
Everybody's OK? 3 pounds, that's beyond tiny...
Thanks for asking soz
Del was born in the end of August at 31 weeks by emergency c-section.
There had been a scare 10 days before and my dtr was admitted over the weekend and tx'd with something or other that accelerates foetal lung development...so, when the emergency developed ten days later and they had to deliver her, her lungs had gotten a boost.
Nevertheless, she remained in the hospital -with mom and Dad visiting multiple x's per day- for two months.
She came home in October and by Christmas she was close to 13 lbs.
and doing wonderful!
I wrote the poem when Del was born, but kept it as a 'draft'.
Although I felt I had gotten 'stuck' and didn't have it 'just so', I shared it with my dtr this week anyway. She seemed quite happy with it.
PS How's your little sozlet?
jjorge, That is so lovely, especially with what lies behind the words. When you say The Blue Ridge, do you mean Virginia?
Congratulations, and nothing can be so dear as the birth of a baby.
Yep! I'm in Floyd County Virginia ...On the flank of the *Buffalo.
...and very lucky to be here.
Hope you are well Letty!
*Buffalo Mountain, that is.
Thank you, jjorge, I am doing better now.
Wow! That's in Southwest, Virginia.
I'm 1.75 miles off the Parkway Letty, and about 3 miles from Mabry Mill
Thanks so much for the update, jjorge, glad everyone's doing so well!
