Interesting article with 17 slides re the humpback whales now in Monterey Bay on the California coast. I was a little aggravated with the human nosy presence, maybe still am somewhat, but was reassured by ethics comments at the end of the article.
Worth seeing and reading the slide show -
Electrifying whale sightings in Monterey Bay (gallery)

Thanks for sharing that, osso. Although my wife hates to drive highway 17 to Monterey, I'd like to do that trip to see those whales - at least once. The best viewing I ever had of whales was on a boat along the coast of Argentina, but that was a long time ago.
You're welcome. Sienstra's OUTDOORS blog is one I always read when I see it on the SFGate website. It's pretty much always about someplace in the Bay area.

@dlowan,
Lots of fine photos in there (the two elephant photo! the goat kids! the stallions! and so on..)
Funny that one of the pictures (the one that seems out of place) is of the mascot (Sparky) of the Somerset Patriots baseball team. Nancy and I go to games there quite often. It is only a few miles from our house.
It apparently was an ad...right after the Elephant and the ducklings picture.
I thought it was a part of the photo series.
My bad!

Digital cameras have arrived in the Indonesian jungle. The result? Makaka apes are starting to shoot selfies. The selfie below is currently the subject of a slightly absurd copyright dispute between the owner of the camera and Wikipedia. But that needn't concern us here. I just love the look in his face. (Or maybe her face? Who knows.)

Sorry I've been MIA from this thread. Some amazing pics in my absence. Thanks mucho.
Deb, I liked the red-eyed croc and the baby gorilla.
