Once home to secret chemical gas factories in World War II, “Rabbit Island” is now a haven for hundreds of friendly bunnies.

@tsarstepan,
tsar, Leave a boy bunny and a girl bunny on and island, and it doesn't take long to have an island populated by bunnies. That's one very cute bunny. Thanks.

@vonny,
vonny, The walrus pic has a wonderful cold feeling. Like that. A terrific photo. The viperfish is amazing. Those deep sea fish are other-worldly. Thanks for them both.

Ostrich, largest bird:

There's some controversy over what the largest flighted bird is. Any comments? Input? I'm not talking about wingspan. I'm talking about overall size.

@Roberta,
Wonderful (well, my opinion) short article with short video about the parrots that live in the Bernal Heights area of San Francisco . . . . . being quiet.
Love it..

@tsarstepan,
Good to see - I once read a scary book, Nightwing, by Martin Cruz Smith.

@tsarstepan,
tsar, Vampire bats are not entirely harmless. Their bites can cause infections. They also may (rarely) spread rabies. I like the two cuties in the picture. Thanks.

It's a shame Roberta about the bats. I guess I have to return your birthday present I caught for you last weekend and return them to the wild. Surprised Wink

@tsarstepan,
A good memory of mine -
my husband and I took off for a four or five day vacation and drove to Death Valley, in, ahem, something like late July. Very very hot, and not a lot of people around. Nice way to die in a car breakdown but it didn't break down, that time, and we had water...

We stayed at the offshoot of the main hotel, a lower end priced motelly sort of place. But, we got to go to the big hotel, Furnace Creek Inn, beautiful building, and use the pool. So we did, late in the evening, and were the only ones in the pool, tre lux. Extremely quiet place at the time.

Finally my husband fessed up - we'd had bats flying over us, I just didn't see them (night blind, also swimming sans glasses). I freaked for a few seconds, then relaxed. Us and the bats.

Searching - they were probably fringed Myotises -
