This is a WARNING. Roger was in town today and we met A2k's Cowdoc for lunch - by now he is mid flight (well, mid two flights and some hours driving) to get back to his home area. We met him at the US Forest Service building here. We were early, so I went around looking at all the brochures, some thick, that they had for people to take if we want. I've now lots of lists of birds in various forest areas. A lot of these have probably been on this thread over the years, but I could use some more studying up. Expect a flock of birdie photos fairly soon.

@roger,
Black Mamba is an african pussy snake ( i think we have four species more poisonous that it, Brown, Taipan, blah blah).

I don't think we'll take the lionfish either as it doesn't kill..... Our Stonefish is more deadly.

Try this for an australian list...

@hingehead,
Hey, HH. Yeah, Australia has more than its fair share of venomous entities. No, the black mamba is not the most poisonous snake, But it's my favorite snake. So you watch what you're calling a pussy reptile.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Snood, Great collection of pics. Thanks mucho.

@Roberta,
Don't Mamba's stand up and spit venom in your eyes? I'm sure I read that in a Willard Price book.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willard_Price's_Adventure_series

The inland taipan is currently considered to be the most venomous snake in the world. It can deliver up to 110 mg of venom per bite and has LD50 rating of 0.025.

LD50 stands for median lethal dose, the amount in milligrams of a substance in a kilogram of saline solution that would kill the members of a test population at a rate of 50%.

@snood,
HH, Black mambas are much too well bred to spit. If they can't bite you, they're not interested. Methinks Mr. Price is mistaken.

snood, Yes, the inland taipan has the most toxic venom. However, it's the coastal taipan you have to watch out for. Either way, dem taipans is tough.

@sozobe,
soz, THUD!

OK, OK, I'm conscious again.

tsar, I've posted a few pics of coyotes in the city. Surprising that an animal this large can fit in and survive.

I've read that out west mountain lions are entering suburban areas. They're losing territory.

I know there are bears in Joisey. I don't know if any have crossed the Hudson.

Looked out your window lately?

Hmmm, that Cornell Lab of Ornithology (the last link) seems like a neat source.

Clown Frog
These tree frogs, given the binomial name of Dendropsophus leucophyllatus are natives of South America’s rain forests, especially found in Suriname, Guyana, Colombia, and Brazil.

We'll call him 'Sandy' for short: Rauhin cradels her 8-week-old baby at the Adventure World zoo in Shirahama, Japan. On Friday, Adventure World named the little panda Yuhin, which means "grand shore," a reference to the park's proximity to the ocean. Park officials say they hope he "grows as strong and grand as the Pacific Ocean."
