Had to look up a derogatory term from another thread and stumbled onto this bird by accident:
A drongo,
http://www.birdingintaiwan.org/gallery/hsi-chin/Bronzed%20Drongo,%20at%20nest.JPG
Drongo's are stunning. Very Happy I now have one as my work desktop wallpaper.
More on the lovely birds:
http://devwijewardane.blogspot.com/2010/06/white-bellied-drongo.html

Seemingly the term and the bird aren't related. Just a coincidence.

Quote:
drongo 86 up, 35 down

Australian slang: A "no-hoper" or fool. Derives from a racehorse of that name in the 1920's that never one a race out of 37 starts.

Recruits to the RAAF in WWII earned the nickname "drongos".

(Nothing to do with the class of bird -- drongo)
"You've really mucked that up, ya drongo!"

This polar bear was spotted strutting his stuff on the edge of the Bernard Spit in Alaska. Photographer Steven Kazlowski snapped away as the outgoing animal demonstrated his very best dance moves.

@msolga,
MJ. Thanks mucho for the cheetah and puppy. I'd like to see them play again in another six months.

Strauss, Amazing, strange, and wonderful birds. I have to remember the name--hoatzin. Thanks, kid.

tsar, I think I saw the thread that mentioned a drongo. Had no idea there was a bird by the same name--and a beautiful bird it is indeed. I appreciate your curious mind. If you hadn't investigated the word drongo, we wouldn't have gotten to see this boid. Thanks.

olga, The polar bear is a star. Big too. A big star. Thanks mucho.

I was trying to teach a friend how to find pictures and post them here. The lesson included, click on monkey. Found this pic. Love it.

@snood,
Rosborne, You're outdone yourself. Wonderful pics. I'm not sure what the birds are. The chick I don't know. I'd hazard a guess that the painting has cedar waxwings, but I don't feel confident that I'm right.

Snood, The bug is a mantis. And the jaguar is a winner, eminently thud-worthy. Thanks.

No, those are definitely not my own photo's. I never take anything that comes out that good Smile

The insect is a mantis of some kind.

I'm not sure about the chick either, but I might guess some type of sandpiper or other similar species. The other birds are Cedar Waxwings, and it's not a painting. I'm pretty sure all of those shots are real photo's (which someone with talent took).

In loving memory of all those who lost their lives 11 years ago today. Nearly 100 dogs worked at the trade center ten years ago; only 12 are left. These are the surviving dogs that worked the trade center and are still alive but retired, they are heroes too, their eyes say everything you need to know about them. Just amazing creatures True heroes of 9/11 still with us today...

@Barry The Mod,
tsar, Nobody ever said that fish had good judgment. Great pic. The luck of the photographer. Wow.

Barry, That's the fuzziest horse I've ever seen. Were it's parents both horses or was one a llama? Love the felines. They are champion sleepers.

Hey. London. Now you've done it. You made me cry. I can't see the monitor. Remembering 9/11. And remember seeing the search dogs on the news. No survivors. Nothing to find. The men who worked with them would occasionally have someone hide so the dogs could find something. It lifted their spirits.

I'm gonna go blubber away from the computer. Thanks for posting those wonderful canine faces.
