@ossobuco,
Actually the site accepts contributions from lots of people and you can describe the picture - the idea was you post the best of your own nature photos, but way too many people are posting great pictures they've found from all over the place without crediting the photographer. But you have given me an idea to check the metadata from now on.

The blue-crowned laughing thrush is among the top 10 species that are fighting extinction with the help of zoos. The population numbers less than 250 mature birds in the wild in China, with trapping for the bird trade a major cause of the species' recent decline.

@ossobuco,
Actually - I'm not so pure in this. If the url gives where the photo comes from, I don't chase who the photographer was, thinking it can be chased from there if anyone wants to, but sometimes it can't. Well, I'll go further sometimes if I'm looking for info about the scene.

I'm remembering one or two posts recently on a2k where someone mentioned there is another way to find a photo source - but I forget what the way is.
Duh.

@ossobuco,
Just copy and paste the photo into a Search engine. It may have been Google Search.

Hi gang, Thanks for all the wonderful photos. Too pooped today to respond to each one individually. Sorry.

How do I find pictures? I don't go to a site. I go to google and enter what I want. If I have something specific in mind, I enter that. Otherwise I enter generalities and then narrow things down. For example, birds, South America. Or rare and beautiful animals. Or wild canids. Or colorful insects. Or the cutest baby animals in the world. Many of the pictures don't say what the animals are or who took the picture. I just find what I want and post it here.

Did something happen? I missed it. Don't like to see upsetness here.

I googled "cutest baby animals in the world." Once I regained consciousness, I had zillions to choose from. Picked this one. Baby bison:

@cicerone imposter,
I haven't tried that. But I rather doubt it brings you to the original photographer all the time.
