@snood,
snood, Giant anteaters are spectacular looking animals. Thanks for the great pic.

Jacob sheep. A rare and ancient breed. These sheep can have from two to six horns. Four are most common. In addition to wool and meat, these sheep are used as protection animals and as pets.

Speaking of prehistoric a page back, I saw one of these the other day.

http://www.google.com/url?source=imglanding&ct=img&q=http://www.answersingenesis.org/assets/images/articles/zoo/armadillo.jpg&sa=X&ei=kkLqT8nHOYjf0QH8u-i1AQ&ved=0CAsQ8wc4YA&usg=AFQjCNGsrYWuTXRZN0Q0XLt2WceWA32wFA

I was in Round Rock, which is North of Austin, and this fellow was in the middle of a really nice housing development, going from bush to bush, rooting around.

@chai2,
Phoenix, Too cute. Can I have one of those cakes? Please.

Chai, An armadillo. Definitely prehistoric looking. I petted an armadillo once at a Bronx Zoo membership meeting. It was smooth and waxy. This was the same night I petted a boa contrictor. Smooth and cool. Not waxy. It looked kinda like this:

@chai2,
I have seen numerous armadillos in the woods. They are about the dumbest animals around. I was practically on top of one of them, and he just kept rooting, totally oblivious to my presence.

I am surprised that they are not preyed upon until extinction, blithely unaware that their lives are at stake.

@Phoenix32890,
Phoenix, according to Wikipedia, armadillos in the US of A have few natural predators. Maybe the one you saw didn't view you as a threat.

Pink fairy armadillo. The caption for this said, "Half hamster, half brontosaur." This particular species is very rare, quite small, and found only in Argentina. Very little is known about them.

Roberta, if I can't get reincarnated as an otter, a dog, or a cat then I would love to come back as a pink fairy armadillo! Thanks very much for the introduction! Very Happy

@tsarstepan,
olga, I've seen pictures of this animal before. Amazing. Thanks, kid.

tsar, I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw that pink fairy armadillo. Astonishing and bizarre.

I'm sorry about the passing of Lonesome George. The last of a species. Sad.

@tsarstepan,
tsar, I'm glad that Mr. Munroe is making his contribution to posterity. That joey looks big. And white. Thanks for the pics.

Olga, Stunner of a bird. I'm amazed it can get off the ground with a tail that size.

@firefly,
Some gawgeous boids, firefly.

I've never seen plumed whistling ducks. Great looking. I'm familiar with the other two. Also great to see. I believe that the harpy eagle is the largest in the world. I saw a film about harpy eagles. Amazing to see them soaring above, around, and through the canopy of the South American rain forest.

PS: I saw the duck before the picture disappeared.
