Pink flamingos are common in the Ngorongoro Crater and at the San Diego zoo (entrance).

I spent some small part of today trying to capture on digital the humming bird here at my parents' house. To no avail. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks, C.I. for the flamingos. The Bronx Zoo has a wonderful population of these. Also thanks for the Serengeti pictures. Love the sunset. How I envy your having been there. Sigh.

Rosborne, Stunning boids. Absoutely stunning.

littlek, I'm wishing you well with your efforts. I can't wait to see the hummingbird.

Animal Planet had a show about two orphaned sitka fawns. Here's a photo of one:

We have pink birds--flamingos and bee eaters. Here are pink pigeons--native to Mauritius and highly endangered:

I kind of lost track of this thread but yesterday I was working in my garden and spotted these, what I can only assume are mating, flys, and I thought of this thread because I thought they were amazing looking so I grabbed my camera....

They were quite cooperative, being at it for at least an hour while I was weeding, photographing, weeding some more, checking back, weeding.

Who knew flies had such stamina!?

The photo really doesn't do them justice. I had never had a chance to observe a fly so closely -- they are really lovely. The colors are amazing; they almost look like metal.

Oh, flies have stamina all right! They can buzz around your head until you smack those suckers. LOL

Roberta,
I saw this butterfly in my yard this morning so I grabbed the camera real quick. I haven't taken the time to look up the name of it yet. The fawn is adorable. I want to pet it Laughing

He was on this tree then.....

.....he flew to this plant.

TTH, First, thanks for the lovely butterfly. I'm impressed at your getting the camera and getting the picture so swiftly. Now about petting wild animals. It's not a good idea for a variety of reasons. However, I share your desire to touch animals. Is there a zoo in your area that has a petting zoo?

I used to be a member of the New York Zoological Society (now the New York Wildlife Society, I think). It had membership nights. Members came to the zoo after hours and met the animals. I petted an elephant in the Bronx once. They also had membership night at Lincoln Center. I petted a boa constrictor, owl, deer, llama, duck, armadillo, and more. Maybe, if you're interested, you could look into something like this in your area. Just a thought.

The caption calls this a parrot from New Guinea. I'm skeptical. It looks like a macaw to me. It's a bird from New Guinea:
