@Roberta,
I hadn't heard of them before, I took Wiki at it's word. I guess they used to be called pygmy chimps before. According to wiki, they are the both of the same species, the common chimps or Pan troglodytes. I'd like to see them in person, in the wild preferably. They sound lovely.

@Ceili,
Ceili, I just did some poking around on Google. Bonobos and chimps are different species, I believe.

The weight of an average adult male chimp is between 70 and 100 pounds. The weight of an average adult male bonobo is about 80 pounds. So bonobos don't get as large as chimps, but they can well fit within the average range.

I found many references to pygmy chimps. I think this is now considered out of date.

My primary primate interest is chimps. But all the great apes fascinate me.

They are, but that wasn't discovered until 30-40 years ago. That's why bonobos did use to be called pygmy chimp before then.

Cool, thanks for the update. Do they come from the same places as well? What I found interesting is they called them hippies of the ape world. Unlike Chimps who will fight strangers, Bonobo will most likely have sex with strangers. Rarely will they fight or even kill a stranger.

@ossobuco,
osso, Great penguin pic. I've thoroughly recovered from the jaguar cub thud. Such cuties. Maybe I could get a job feeding jaguar cubs. I wonder if there are any in my neighborhood. In Noo Yawk, you just never know. (Remembering the guy who had a full-grown tiger in his apt. in Harlem.)

@Roberta,
Speaking of big ears, here's the fennec fox. The ears help to keep the animal cool.

Ooohh, such faces.

Here a new one to me, a zonkey -

@ossobuco,
osso, Thanks for the adopted bunny and the zonkey. I've heard of and seen pictures of zonkeys before. Striped donkeys. Why can't people leave well enough alone?
