@djjd62,
Bull mastiffs are so cream puffish in general despite how one would expect from a dog of that size and muscle heft.

@tsarstepan,
When we took our setter Kelly for obedience training at the local park, the dog that won "best in the class" was a huge bull mastiff powder puff bossed around by a small young woman. Wonderful sight.

@hingehead,
osso, I love that DAWG. I want that dawg. I will have that dawg. Such a sweetheart. I'm not sure about the deer kiss. Looks more like a hello to me. Gorgeous swan pic.

HH, Dem hoopoes are too much. Feeding the kids.

Not a potato with a rash. This is a flamingo tongue snail:

@Roberta,
The deer kiss - that's the San Francisco Chronicle writing for you. I suppose I appreciate their added words, but a good half of them are eye rollers of corniness to me. So, a love hate thing. I sometimes cut out whole sentences when I quote, re the corn, to just give the information. On the other hand, I like a lot of their photo choices.

HH, The three new pics have taken my breath away. Hey, you gotta be careful about that. I don't have that much breath to begin with.

Gawgeous, gawgeous boids. And I love that bear. Not Olympic diving form, but the bubbles are great. Thanks, muchisimo.

@djjd62,
I looked it up Owls are the night time equivalent of raptors - different order but convergent evolution.

This is kind of cute - but a rat was harmed so if that offends don't follow the link (it's not gory but it is dead)

http://www.owlpages.com/articles.php?section=Owl+Stories&title=Caring+Owl

Sample:
Quote:
I am from South Africa and about 4 years ago made friends with a spotted eagle owl that showed up on our farm (most probably it was rehabilitated by someone). The owl got injured and I kept it inside for a couple of months until it was well again. During this time our one old cat found out that no other cats are allowed in my study where I kept the owl and she moved in. I allowed this because she has never in her life caught a bird or mouse and was not interested in the owl at all.

During this period the owl got used to her and they regularly ate steak out of my hand together. Once the owl was OK again I let it out, but it now comes and sleeps inside during the day, hunting freely at night. At the moment I have another injured owl that he adopted and feeds regularly (about 2 rats an evening).

The other night I was working late in my study when the owl came in with a rat. I presumed that he were going to feed it to the injured owl, but much to my surprise he flew towards the cat that was sitting on the sofa and tried offering the rat to her. Fortunately I was lucky enough to be able to take a couple of pictures which I include here.

There are a series of photos of the owl offering the rat to the cat, his wife, a crow and the injured owl. It's very sweet in it's own way.
