@trying2learn,
t2l. Amazing shot! Amazing. I had to stare at it for a while to figure out what I was looking at. The ray I recognized. Thanks for sharing.

@trying2learn,
Wow! What an experience that must have been! I am scared to death of water so you'd never find me even trying that. I'd say it's quite possible those fish did know. Animals have amazing senses. Love the pink mask!

I know that in some way all babies are beautiful but I think this is stretching it just a bit! Baby Aardvark:

Let's go on to the much cuter Giant Anteater Baby

And to the most adorable of the three a Snow Leopard Cub.

I considered that possibility. If he was that rapt, he wouldn'ta blunk.

Arella Mae, I'm sure that the mama aardvark thinks he's beautiful. Anteater is winner, and the leopard is a keeper. Thanks, kid.

@Roberta,
To me, they are the most beautiful animal created. I may be a bit prejudiced but that's just the way it is!

This bobcat leapt 50 feet up a prickly cactus and stayed there for six hours to escape from a mountain lion in the Sonoran Desert, Gold Canyon, Arizona. The terrified feline climbed to the top of the Giant Saguaro Cactus and was so scared it stayed on top of the catctus for several hours.

A two-hour-old lion cub in the Masai Mara feeds alongside older, two-week-old cubs. Lions do dual feeding, so the lioness who is feeding the cubs is probably only the mother of one set of cubs, as they feed cubs that aren’t their own. Paul Goldstein of Exodus Travels, who took the photo, said that in 11 years of running safaris he has never encountered anything like this: “They are not in a great position and the mother is also giving milk to three other cubs as the images show, so I fear for their future, but in all my years I have never been moved so much by a wildlife spectacle, truly astonishing and a privilege to witness.”

@Irishk,
I've either seen that photo before or this happens to bobcats more than once, oy.

I don't think it's easy balancing in place on a small point, maybe a pointy point, for six hours.

Interesting article from the National Zoo on which animals seemed to sense yesterday's earthquake before it happened and the general behavior of some of the others.

Quote:
Great Apes
The earthquake hit the Great Ape House and Think Tank Exhibit during afternoon feeding time.

About five to ten seconds before the quake, many of the apes, including Kyle (an orangutan) and Kojo (a Western lowland gorilla), abandoned their food and climbed to the top of the tree-like structure in the exhibit.

About three seconds before the quake, Mandara (a gorilla) let out a shriek and collected her baby, Kibibi, and moved to the top of the tree structure as well.

Iris (an orangutan) began “belch vocalizing”—an unhappy/upset noise normally reserved for extreme irritation—before the quake and continued this vocalization following the quake.

Quote:
Small Mammals
The red ruffed lemurs sounded an alarm call about 15 minutes before the quake and then again just after it occurred.

The howler monkeys sounded an alarm call just after the earthquake.

The black-and-rufous giant elephant shrew hid in his habitat and refused to come out for afternoon feeding.

Quote:
Giant Pandas
According to keepers, the giant pandas did not appear to respond to the earthquake.

Quote:
Beavers
Keepers were feeding the beavers and hooded mergansers (a species of duck) when the earthquake hit. The ducks immediately jumped into the pool. The beavers stopped eating, stood on their hind legs and looked around, then got into the water, too. They all stayed in the water. Within an hour, some of the beavers returned to land to continue eating.
