Reg, You're right. The rockhopper would make a nice avatar. Might we expect to see the mantid turn penguid anytime soon? I'm stickin' with the fast feline.

TTH, Hang in there. Learning stuff on the computer drives me nuts. Looking forward to seeing more photos.

Spotted or pinto bat (not so much a great beauty as interesting and other worldly looking):

Well as long as you're mantidilly inclined, just be careful about mating. Dem females give you a come hither look. But they're only interested in one thing. Once they're satisfied, they'll eat you--and I don't mean in a good way.

BTW, Every time I see that frisking picture, I laugh out loud. Granted, it has nothing to do with beautiful animals. I don't care.

I love the sleekness of this animal. Not sure what it is. It could be a gerenuk.

Glad you liked dem peachy feet, Jes. How 'bout these tootsies?

Would it surprise you to know that this is called a blue-footed booby. The first time I saw one I thought it was some kinda airbrushing trick. Nope. They have blue feet.

Another outstanding photo, TTH. Thanks. Glad you laughed at the frisking photo. Even when I think about it, I laugh. Don't care if it was staged or not. It just tickles me.

Here's another aquatic mammal:

So, I'm watching a tv show about big cats. The narrator assures me (and anybody else who's watching) that tigers are almost invisible in tall grass. I'm skeptical. I found the following:
