Irish, VERY cute baby bear. Wonderful and strange-looking cockchafer. Lovely fox and cranes (not a great-looking fish). Spectacular shot of the underwater tiger. WOW! My money (if I had any) woulda been on the hippo. Hey, croc. You're outta your depth!

dj, Reconsidering my thoughts on standy-uppy bunny ears. This one's got floppy ears, and it's a doozy. Love the otter too.

tsar, Thanks for the mother/child flamingos. The people at the Budapest Zoo need to feed dem boids more shrimp! Get the birds in the pink. (Now I gotta worry about flamingos in Hungary. It's always something.) Loved the link.

@Roberta,
heard form tai chi yesterday (they're up north), seems that they saw your echidna's bigger cousin the porcupine, heading up there myself in a little over a week, will be pretty much internetless for a few weeks, but will keep the camera handy for animal sightings

@djjd62,
1. Gonna miss ya, dj.
2. Tell tai I say hi.
3. Echidnas are more closely related to platypuses than porcupines. They lay eggs.
4. Hope you get some good pics. I'll be looking forward to them.

Two kingfishers mate at a pool near Droitwich, Worcestershire. Wildlife photographer Mark Hancox said: ''The pool is very popular with kingfishers at this time of year and I get some great pictures of them diving. I took dozens of shots of diving kingfishers but was intrigued by these two birds who were obviously in the middle of their courtship."

A dolphin named Cessol looks as if he is smiling and blowing a welcoming thought bubble at Planete Sauvage wildlife park in Port Saint Pere, France. Amateur photographer Yohann Aberkane said: "I couldn't believe it when Cessol swam to the glass and blew a bubble - he really seemed like he was trying to communicate, almost like using a thought bubble."

@Roberta,
i saw two bluebirds the other day, was stopped at a stop sign, and looked over at the ditch on the side of the road, and there were two blue birds sitting on a branch, not a really common sight around here

@ossobuco,
Saw all kinds of these on our quick dash up north:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_inztztbPyfk/S7kw3K7rOWI/AAAAAAAAEeU/8bXlZD_Q_jY/s1600/pileated-woodpecker.jpg

It's a pileated woodpecker -- the kind with Woody's laugh. One noisy fellow woke us early (5 am early) every morning by not only pecking, but actually hammering on a tin pail caught up in a tree.
