Morning New York....
http://i1001.photobucket.com/albums/af138/barrythemod/To%20Forward/portrait-of-an-atlantic-walrus.jpg

Walrus change from pink-to-cinnamon brown to a lighter shade when it gets into cold water because it's blood vessels get smaller. Walrus are able to adjust to the surrounding temperatures with their blood circulatory system. When they get hot their blood is pumped to its blubber and skin and it gets cooled by the air or the water. When they're cold they can reduce the blood flow to the skin and blubber to save heat.

Irish, Nice to know that the duck's owner is taking care of its feet. I'm just wondering why the duck is walking around the streets.

Nothing surprises me about chimps. Ruby sounds like someone we'd all like to have around the house. But Ruby is getting kinda big. I hope humans are very careful around her.

The dog and seal pic is tres wonderful. Who do you think was more curious, the dog or the seal?

Love the rhinos. Many years ago Jespah and I were going to a adopt a rhino calf and share custody. It was gonna live in her driveway. I think baby rhinos are very adorable.

dj, Two views of one cute bunny. I'm guessing that the thing on the otter's head is a crab cake. Mr. Green

Barry, The morning pic is awesome. You're under arrest, Mr. Mod. The g'night pic is illegal--illegally cute. Thud.

@djjd62,
Aw...both are just too cute!

I just checked in at Zooborns (even though that site sometimes crashes my PC)...but it was worth it to see this Mom/baby camel bonding. I did not know that camels were an endangered species!

It's little wonder this doting mum can't get enough of her newborn - as he's one of the most endangered animals in the world.

dj, Thud from the bunny. Thudded with a bounce from the otter. Too much. Too cute. Feeling weak again.

Irish, I had no idea that camels were so endangered. It's a pleasure to see the doting moma and the much doted upon baby. Thanks, kid.

@Irishk,
Must be a particular species - we have stacks of them in central Oz (descendents of the camel herds of Afghan traders in the 1800's)

@hingehead,
They're called Bactrian camels.
Quote:
Little Lemmy is one of the newest Bactrian Camels to be born at Longleat Safari Park, to mum Bhali, 13, and dad Khan, nine. He was born weighing a hefty 65 lbs after a gestation period of 13 months, and is now busy exploring his large enclosure at the park. Now one month old, Lemmy is one of eight Bactrian Camels at the park - and is the first to be born at Longleat in two years.

@hingehead,
National Geographic lists them as camels that inhabit the deserts of Central and East Asia, also mentioning that they are an endangered species.
Quote:
The only truly wild camels that still exist are Bactrian camels. These herds survive in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and China but number less than 1,000.

The recent weather at Noahs Ark Zoo Farm in Bristol seems to have had a warming effect on the relationships between some of the animals. The zoo's male giraffe Gerald has amused visitors and staff by making close friends with the zebra family. The family of three Chapmans zebra - named Zebedee, Zara and Zelda - and the giraffes share a spacious paddock in the African continental section of North Somerset's award-winning family park.

Irish, What a glorious picture. Not only does it show two different species making friends, but it shows the dazzling artistry of nature. Look at the patterns of shapes and colors on those animals.

For the last few days I've been randomly entering the names of animals and then adding fish to the end or sea to the beginning to see what would turn up. Here's a gold-saddled goatfish:
