@djjd62,
Thank you for posting this. It's a deep truth that the only true marker of the civilization level of a people is the way they treat their animals - the tsunami dog knows that, but oh! that thousand-yard stare is one I've seen before in other survivors of assorted disasters, and it takes a while to overcome. Hope doggie has more brains than I do, because I, personally, am going crazy for the following reason: yesterday I was driving in Park Avenue, Manhattan, and saw a woman walking a cheetah. Yes - not a dog, a cheetah; on a leash. So today I check the zoo to see if they're missing any more animals (their missing cobra was found in the meantime) and find no missing cheetah. Nothing on google news. But I'm telling you I saw it! Should I start waiting for people in white coats?!

@High Seas,
I suppose that is one reason to have a cell phone with a camera device.

@ossobuco,
Taking a picture never even occurred to me - I just pulled over (double-parking, naturally) and pondered whether I might have lost it so completely as to have to lock the car and take a cab. Finally I decided to look at the sidewalk again - cheetah on leash held by lady was still walking there - and just drove off.

@tsarstepan,
Just because none of you lined up and came in quietly doesn't mean you're not under arrest. Now you're on the wanted list. No rest for the guilty.

dj, Does a body good to hear about a rescued animal. Thanks for sharing that. The B&O today both seem to have the same or similar expression. Wonder what they were thinking.

High Seas, Relax. This is Noo Yawk, and you never know what you're gonna see. I can attest that the cheetah wasn't me (avatarially speaking). I was having my brain magnetically imaged yesterday.

Just walking around the city, I've seen a man with a boa constrictor around his neck and several monkeys on people's shoulders. Gotta admit that the cheetah beats those by a mile in the exotic category.

tsar, ooh. Nice pelican pic. They can be strange looking birds with amazing wingspans. I love dem boids.

Kanga-brouhaha: Christie Carr puts her partially paralyzed kangaroo, Irwin, into a car seat for the ride to visit a nursing home in Broken Arrow, Okla. Irwin has been a blessing to Carr, who suffers from depression, and nursing home patients love to cuddle with him, but local bureaucrats haven't decided whether to give her an exemption to keep the therapy pet. They are concerned a sweet-natured, disabled kangaroo could be a public-safety risk.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that guy probably does a lot of other stupid thing, too.

@roger,
Arella Mae, I kinda sorta like the commercial, but I worry about all those cats wandering around in the desert. I'm a pain in the patoot.

Osso, Wasn't there a therapeutic rat mentioned here recently? Now a kangaroo. Animals continue to amaze me. Their presence has a healing effect in many ways. Thanks for the info. Irwin looks like a good guy and a good kid.

Barry, Salukis are an ancient breed--beautiful, graceful, and SPEEDY. The g'night pic has moved you to the top of the Wanted list.

Roger, I assume you're talking about the man with the snake. Don't know what that guy does in his spare time. I think he was just looking for attention. Not getting much. This is Noo Yawk. People don't stop and stare often. I'm reminded of a joke by David Brenner. People are walking around on the street, minding their own business. All of a sudden a pothole cover blows out of its hole and flies thirty feet in the air. It lands with a loud clank. One of the passers-by says, "Heads," and keeps walking. Sounds about right to me.
