The cat in the picture is a wild animal. It doesn't have a name. It's an African wild cat called a rusty spotted cat.

Arella Mae, Is your hair the color of the cat's?
I know he doesn't have a name. LOL My hair is bright red. The cat has more of an orange tint to his. Beautiful nonetheless!

Speaking of speed reminded me of one of my all-time favorite animal-related sports photographs. It's been posted here before, and it's coming 'round again. Secretariat at the Belmont Stakes.

@msolga,
olga, The baby dolphin photo is a heart-breaker. I'm glad you like the ferret. But I thought you were an otter fan--not that the two are mutually exclusive.

But I think you've hurt the feelings of a certain water mammal.

@Roberta,
Laughing
The look on that otter's face, Roberta! So put out.
I still love otters best (of course!) but I had no idea that ferrets were such lovable critters, not being all that familiar with them. That's a wonderful photograph.

Yes, poor little baby dolphin.

Just before I go, Roberta.
I thought you might be interested in this gallery of photographs of rare birds (see link below), from a newly published book. (Knowing what a boid fan you are. Smile )
Here's one of them.:

http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2010/8/25/1282734788520/Book-Review--houbara-bust-015.jpg
Love is blind: having feathers in front of your face is awkward for a display posture, meaning that an excited houbara bustard can often run into obstacles. Like a miniature ostrich, it picks seeds, grasshoppers and locusts from the arid earth of north Africa and the Canary Islands.

Quote:
Book review: Atlas of Rare Birds by Dominic Couzens:

In this book published by New Holland Publishers, Dominic Couzens tells the stories of 50 of the rarest birds in the world. Some of the featured birds are teetering on the brink of extinction, and several may be extinct already. 'Some are born rare, some achieve rarity, but most have rarity thrust upon them,' writes Couzens ..:

Phenomenal puffin pic, cyclo. Thanks. Throwing in a wow. Wow.

The fastest flying bird in the world--the spine-tailed swift. (The peregrine falcon is faster in a swoop, but not in actual flight.)
