@djjd62,
dj, You're a brave soul to get that close to a wasp. But that's a stunning shot. Crystal clear. Great color.

@Roberta,
it was so busy trying to get whatever pollen it was getting out of the barely open flowers i had no worries

the shot turned out better than expected, the wasp was just getting ready to move to another flower head, so the wings were open, exposing the brightly cloured posterior

Earthwatch scientists have discovered 18 new species of invertebrate in South Africa. One of the recent finds, this cicada, is still in the process of being named and described. The findings could help protect an area threatened by development

Hi Roberta,
I was just in New Orleans and took a swamp tour. This alligator was following the boat and I was sitting at the very back watching it and this is what it did right in front of me.......

....and yes I did pet it when it came along side the boat Very Happy

@TTH,
TTH, That's a lot closer than I'd care tobe to such a big alligator. I'm glad you got to pet it and retain both hands. What did it feel like? (I once petted another large reptile--a boa constrictor. Interesting sensation.)

@Roberta,
I got to pet a Florida Manatee. Can't remember just how it felt, but you have to meet one up close to get a feel for just how huge these things really are.

@Roberta,
It felt smooth to the touch, not rough like I would have thought.
