Had a crab apple tree full of juvenile cedar waxwings this morning. Its colour isn't as well developed as in an adult but you can just see the yellow band on the end of its tail (which helped me identify it).

(Great to see you back, Roberta!)

Looks like 'The Lion King': Hail the panda prince, who's being held up at the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Yaan, Sichuan Province, China. Following the traditional Chinese custom, the center held a naming ceremony for the cub and his twin 100 days after their birth.

@Izzie,
BOIDA.... something.... just for you special lady...

have a feeling this is your fave...... have a "friend" who has a peregrine... he got him whilst I was in the US and we named him "IKE"....

yesterday he got lost for 14 hours.... my friend got him back - hungry and scared with two jays giving him a little hassle... but he's back now..

thought you would like to see him...

gonna try and get a video to post of him... but may be a while yet...

Izzie, Like the frog. LOVE DA BOID. Hey Ike. How you doin', kid? Your feeling is right on target, Izzie. I'm a major fan of peregrines. Howdja guess?

Another swift raptor (although none is as swift as the peregrine). A red-tailed hawk:

Alex, Saw an osprey in the flesh when I was sailing off the coast of Maine many years ago. Beautiful birds.

Izzie, What a face. Thanks, kid.

@Roberta,
Put a few jars of soup on the outside deck last night to cool. Mr. Moth decided he liked his feet on the warm glass.

Alex, That's a doozy of a moth!! Wow. What kind is it? Do you know?

I've been thinking about the orchid mantis today. Why. Quien sabe. It's a stunner:

Roberta, just butting in to mention that my local PBS station (Buffalo) is running a film on orphan cheetahs Sunday night. You may want to check your local listings. (Now back to regularly scheduled programming...)
