jes, You saw that guy in the flesh? Wow. We've got a red-tail hawks in my neighborhood (sorta), but they've never stopped by.

Thanks, Robert. Dem sea slugs never fail to amaze me. They are spectacular. In fact, of all the animals I've "discovered" since I started this thread, those have been the biggest surprise and the most rewarding. Stunning.

@Roberta,
Yeah, s/he was banded on the right foot, very regal. Turned to the side so we could see profile, before flying away. Amazing.

@Roberta,

The learner.org/jnorth site says:
Look at these features to be sure your bird is in the BLACKBIRD FAMILY:

Medium or long tail
Black bill
Black or yellow eyes
Wingbeats too fast to count, wings rounded

@Roberta,
Right, Roberta - sort of a riff on red tail hawk, but I forgot the obvious, the name. I saw a field with a lot of them once, in the santa inez valley in CA.

Amazing shot, Robert. What are the chances of a photographer being in the right place at the right time with the camera aimed in the right direction? Great verticality. And you're right. The page need more whale.
