Photo by James Adams of a potoo doing the stick-position with her chick, in Honduras.
He writes: "Our Northern Potoo is now a proud mother! Her fence-post nesting site has proved itself, and this little chick was hatched about two weeks ago. Although still in downy fluff (barely), and with a ways to grow before fledging, the chick is all Potoo, rearing its head in stick-like fashion and pretending to be invisible. As I photographed these birds this afternoon, mom kept a sharp eye on me, swiveling cautiously to look in my direction, and peering through those little notches in her seemingly closed eyelid."
