a much debated question. where are heaven and hell? if they do exist i dont think they are visible to the outside world. i think if they do exist it would be their personal heaven or hell that resides in their brain.
To some degree Heaven and the other place are concepts. They may well exist in some manner; but, I think it's more a matter of levels of after-earthlife existence and where the soul goes. Depending on how a person lived their life, they go to a more serene place (Heaven) or a more chaotic location (the other place). Occasionally a life has been somewhat twisted and a combination of good and bad and somewhat of an all around evenly balanced set of books. In many of those cases...although not all...the person heads off to Purgatory where they must tip the scales in one direction or the other.
Of course all of it is temporary and eventually the soul moves on. Sometimes alone, sometimes merging with another soul or breaking up into parts and becoming a generating seed for several new souls. Once the new direction has been established the soul (or souls as the case may be) enter into new life forms.
but that would mean heaven, hell and reincarnation. all of those dont normally go together because of religious differences.
The nice thing about beliefs...religious and other...are that we each have our own. Mine may be right, so might yours.
They exist in the bag of punishments and rewards carried by those who need to control people who have outgrown being offered candy or a belt across the ear.
Heaven and hell are states of mind.
