I read the following :

In winXP the kernel protects the phisical memory from application?

why do you need to protect the phisical memory, & from which applications?

Sound to me like it is refering to winows XP ability to keep applications separated in memory. That way, if one application freezes, or crashes, the other applications running are not going to be affected. Then you can stop or kill the bad application and continue working without having to reboot your computer.
