Song lyrics copyright 2006 Mark Shannelly
There are many religious people out there - many of whom I have encountered - that are violent, uncaring, prejudice, and rude. Many of which with a "holier than thou" attitude because I am an atheist.
What rights do religious people have to talk down to me when they themselves are preachers of violence and hatred? An unjust war is supported because Mr. Bush claims it's "God's War", homosexuals are ridiculed and excluded because God said it's evil, people are crippled and dying when stem cell research is the clear answer, but not allowed because we live in a Christian nation. Whatever happened to following your own creed? Why can't these people live and let live? Why am I told that I am damned to eternity in a place I don't believe exists? I respect your beliefs, all I ask is that you respect mine.
Here's another one of my band's songs. This one is called "A Thousand Voices"
A Thousand Voices by Mark Shannelly
The followers all knelt
In a mass to the ground
Wash the feet of the vagrant
Then throw them back down
Clutch the chain around your neck
As you point that gun
It'll be alright
Justified by the son
Forgiveness comes easy
When you believe in hope
Turn your back on the world
And pray to cope
You say they won't happen
These every day sins
You're back on your knees
Again and again
Guilt doesn't live
In a world of faith
You're a saint in their eyes
If you admit your mistakes
Devote this life
To find salvation in the next
Find good grace with yourself
And to hell with the rest
Believe in a fear
Of eternal pain
It lies in your mind
It's exactly the same
There's no turning back
A thousand voices call for you
There's no turning back
A million tears shed for you
There's nothing to prove
Waste your life for who?
There's no one to save
Mindless, just like you
There's no turning back
A thousand voices call for you
There's no turning back
A million tears shed for you
There's nothing to do
My words fall on deaf ears
There's something wrong with you
What you don't understand you fear
That was very nice. I liked it.
