Famous people have a definite advantage insofar as their words are frequently printed and/or repeated. Therefore, the majority of the words appearing in this forum are attributed to well-known individuals (with the exception of an occasional 'anonymous').
Did you ever think that maybe there are people out there who are saying the same things in a much better way and we just don't know about it?
In fact, after reading through all these forums, I think some of our members should qualify for Bartlett's. Anybody know how to submit entries?
To Bartlett's? No, bandylu ~ I don't know. But be sure I will find out because of your post!
For now, I welcome any quotes ~ I don't look for 'famous' people. I look for a quote to 'speak' to me on a personal level. I've not posted one quote that I feel otherwise about.
I will do my best to answer your question about 'applying' to Bartlett's. (Excellent question, by the way.)
ahh my child, tisth easier for an abuzzer to get through the eye of a bartlett than idiot getting into the whitehouse
hang on a sec...
Rae -- I know that's why you've selected your quotes. Trouble is, we rarely hear the quotes of the 'little man'. I understand that it is, therefore, impossible for anyone to quote said 'little man' (unless you are related to him/her or he/she posts something quotable on A2K -- moondoggy, I haven't decided if yours qualifies or not, yet). I'm just wondering who made the editors at Bartlett's the official and final word on quotable quotes.
Yes, who makes the decisions anyway!?
We must gather all the fine jewels about and submit.
It could quite be anarchy but, in its best form I think.
Exactly, quinn, exactly. We must gather and submit and demand that 'they' consider. The 'little man' deserves some credit.
Much more credit than presently afforded at least
It occurs to me, however, that it is Barlett's FAMOUS Quotations, so perhaps we first need to make the quotes famous. That, of course, brings up the question of how to go about making things famous. It would seem 'publication' on the web would qualify. But I could be wrong.
Hummm...I think now we are getting back into the whole who decides thing.
I'm guessing Bartletts and Famous is attributing those quotes of only famous and so until those who are little known become famous its just a loosing battle.
How about Unknown then?
There you go, quinn. We will have to start our own collection of great quotes from the unknown and/or semi-known.
I asked for this, in a sense, on Raven's Realm and didn't get too much of a response.
Please, please, please.....if it's noteworthy to you, it's noteworthy to me! I'd love to hear your quotes ~ from anyone!
Some favorites of mine, from my Nana, are:
'Put a sweater on, I'm cold.'
'Bend down, so I can yell at you and look you in the eye.'
'If you keep looking at me like that, your face is gonna stick.'
I'd love to see us all come up with our own 'Barlett's' quotes for submittal. Why shouldn't we?
Perfect, Rae -- but these marvelous quotables will get lost here. Perhaps you can start another topic asking for contributions. With all these old Abuzzers around now, I think you'll get great response.
