The Smothering Darkness

I awaken to total blackness
As if I am gasping for air to breathe
The darkness smothering the life out of me causing stress
I want to just get up and leave.

The evil I feel in darkness makes me scared
I feel the darkness deprives me of life
I wish I could see the sunshine so fair
The air seems so thick I could cut it with a knife.

Really fearful of the black darkness I am
It makes me want to run and hide
But frozen with fear I'm as meek as a lamb
Wonder if this is what it's like when you die?

I need to find a light so I can breathe
The weight of the darkness feels like a ton on my chest
I imagine a funeral wreath
In this I do not jest.

I really need to face my fear
But it has lingered since childhood
So at the darkness I wish I could leer
If I wasn't so afraid I would
