COLUMBUS, Ohio - A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport utility vehicle that was hit, police said.

Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.

The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.

Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.

The other teens were not hurt, police said.

On both sides, in this particular conflict.

I certainly don't approve of the driver shooting the egg thrower. I was once in a situation where kids were throwing icy snowballs at cars. I did not realize that the kids were there, until I was hit. I was so startled, that I nearly had an accident.

While I am apalled (or pretend to be ... am I becoming oblivious anymore?) at any shooting death, I felt a smidgeon (dare I even admit to it) of smugness in the fact that the little **** got his come uppance. Yes, you heard me, and are probably aghast. I am somewhat dismayed at my own initial response when I heard the story, but I found myself not feeling the usual 'how unfair ... the poor innocent ... those bstds' inner monologue.

Have I become somewhat de-sensitized to the violence that permeates our world, and am I just f'n sick of the irresponsible little shits that strut their stuff in other peoples faces, think the world revolves around them and that they can do anything they like, instigating irritation, pain and misery on other people and think they can get away with it and take no responsibility?

Anyhow, a little drastic perhaps, and I certainly do not condone the murder of a human being, but I can see why it happened. Some people have absolutely no tolerance for what they perceive to be 'disrespect' and that kid found out the hard way.

I was on the train this morning and this snot behind me kept coughing into the back of my head. I wanted to smack the **** out of him (and I truly do mean that, I am not kidding). I thought about it, getting arrested for assault, spending all my day in custody, having to hire legal representation, and decided I didn't need the additional aggravation added to my day.

While (I hope) I would never actually shoot somebody, I can understand that a person could be driven (no pun intended) to it. Even for the silliest reason as getting egged.

Wow! I found more info:

http://www.columbusdispatch.com/news-story.php?story=230664

and I know where that is and everything, have driven there a few times if not often.

So the whipping-out-a-gun-and-fatally-using it aspect is not a little unsettling.

The Hilltop is an area which an acquaintance of mine once described as "West Virginia West." It is a working class neighborhood filled with drunken spouse and child abusers, crack whores, juvenile delinquents and about any other category of sad people whom one can associate with poverty and ignorance.

I am not at all surprised to learn that this happened there.

Just as some of y'all feel a modicum of guilty satisfaction for the "justice" dealt this kid, it is 100% normal to be fourteen and to want to throw **** at cars. Especially if you live in Ohio, a powerful sedative. Honestly, tightly wound adults wanting to unload all their little failures and dissappointments by snapping at kids over trifles like a dirty car, truly deserve egg all over their windshields--I remember thinking this way as a teen, who loved to chuck snowballs at cars. I fondly remember being ten and getting chased by a bus driver who had abandonded his vehicle, what a thrill.

Assasinating an egg-thrower? Not so normal.

I thought something along those lines. While the kid didn't deserve to be shot, he did deserve something.

I would have preferred that the driver wipe the egg off his truck, and rub it all over the little monster's face!

Yes, everyone knows that there are no sad upper-class drunken spouses, child abusers, crackheads, or juvenile delinquents.

Completely agree with Gargamel here. (Well, except for the powerful sedative part maybe. I really truly like it... but then again I don't live on the Hilltop.)

Given that you know nothing about Columbus, Ohio, your remarks are just the type of sneer which i have learned is typical of you. Next to the area just to the east of the Hilltop, the area known as the Bottoms, the Hilltop is the largest poor white neighborhood in Columbus. As one travels west from the Bottoms and the Hilltop, the economic demographic of the largely white neighborhoods improves slightly, but never rises above working class and lower middle class.

In the more affluent neighborhoods of Grandview, Marble Cliff, Upper Arlington, Worthington and Dublin, you don't find crack whores on the streets. Spouse and child-abusers do it behind closed doors, and children don't run loose on the streets as they do in the Bottoms or on the Hilltop. Grandview, Upper Arlington, Worthington and Dublin have their own police forces, and they maintain a visible and effective presence on the streets.

I suspect that you've never visited Columbus, Ohio, and have no idea what the atmosphere of the Hilltop is, nor have any idea of the extent to which poverty and ignorance make crack whores, child- and spouse-abusers and juvenile deliquency apparent in that neighborhood. Further, you have (if it is true you've never been there) no idea of the extent to which these things are not evident in Grandview, Upper Arlington, Worthington and Dublin--or even in Clintonville for that matter.

In short, as is so often the case, you're shooting your mouth off, but you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I'm with Gargamel, too, with the exception of not considering juvenile delinquency to be normal.
