LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Film director Robert Altman has died in a Los Angeles hospital, a spokesman for his production company said on Tuesday.
The spokesman told Reuters that Altman, 81, died on Monday evening. He gave no cause of death.
Altman, whose films include "The Player," "M*A*S*H," and "Nashville," revealed earlier this year that he had been the recipient of a heart transplant approximately 10 years ago. He received an honorary Oscar at the 2006 Academy Awards.
He made some great films, including two of my favorites-- Nashville and MASH. I'm sorry to see him go....
He will be greatly missed. He was one of the greats!
Man.
I really love his films.

Often imitated, never duplicated.
That's a shame. Some tough losses in Hollywood lately. He will indeed be missed.
Sad news indeed.
I agree with blcksmithn that MASH was a great film (I must track down Nashville and watch that sometime), but I place it a close second in my list of Altman films.
My absolute favourite was Gosford Park, which was a stunning film with an amazing cast.
He totally captured the "upstairs downstairs" style of life in 1930's England.
Ideal for watching on an Autumnal Sunday afternoon (preferably rainy) whilst making one's self sick on expensive chocolates.
