Persecution, being taunted, this is why we left our mother land aboard the two ships, the Speedwell and Mayflower
With the thought of freedom and being in a new land, there was no hesitation when we left
Our faith, our religion, we thought everything was fine, then things started to sour
Soon one ship failed us, so behind some of the passengers were left.
Just a handful of us were allowed to proceed
Going to the promised land, we thought a land of milk and honey
A land where our religious beliefs, would be freed
Soon we had sailed into a storm, very few days upon the ship was sunny.
Some would never see the new world, a land most of us longed for
Bad hygiene, hunger, thirst, all of us would eventually face
All we wanted was to be free, like a bird, free in the sky to soar
The loss of life we were faced with, what a waste.
We left England so confident and sure
We were going to a place, each of us longed for
Oh God, help us, we were so sure
The pain, the cries of the children, we want no more.
The we see what seems to be land
All are hopes and dreams seem to have been answered
This sight to all of us was so grand
Seems we are finally here, this new land to which we were lured.
Setting foot upon land once more
We meet the native people of this wonderful new place
We realize we must give thanks, to God to bestow even more goodness upon us, happiness, we want more
So on this day, together we give thanks, vowing to live side by side in peace, in this wonderful, new world, for us, God's chosen place.
