Well, it is officially Christmas Eve and I am still not done. I still have to go to the store and 1 last gas station to drop off a gift. I wonder if Santa gets this tired? He does exist, the little M & M guys on TV think so. Anyway, I hope you all have a nice Christmas. I am going to hurry and get those things done (store & gas station) and get back so I can go to sleep. 5:30 am comes around pretty quick.
Goodnight all!

Mountain Dell or Salt Lake answer
I don't know if anyone else thought about this but I think the $5.00 per was not with regards to the cost for a wagon to make the pass but the cost for a letter to be sent via the Pony Express. The reason I say this is because the clue said it was a "multi state bargain". The letter going from Missouri to California would be a multi-state bargain. I'm not sure that the wagon crossing would be multi-state. Just thought I'd share. I think the answer our team went with was "Salt Lake City Station" but it could have been Salt Lake City House.

The Pioneers came from the Midwest also, so it was also a multi-state bargain. Very Happy

By gum, I think you're right on this one. I had not found that one at all, but I found it now ...

When the Pony Express began, it cost $5.00 per ½ ounce to send one letter. By the time the Pony Express ended, the price had dropped to $1.00 per ½ ounce. ...

That explains the "then it got even better" perfectly, as well as the multi-state bargain, and the choice of the word "stop".

Dang!

There goes another one down the tubes.

Of course, you could still argue that if you can go to Dime Box and drop a dime to mail a letter, $5 per half ounce is no bargain at all!

I think the deciding factor between the two answers would be the "then it got even better." With the drop in price, it sure was better! So, you're probably still right.

I can't find the reference, but the price dropped in taking the pioneers west also. Confused Confused Confused

Oooooo.... that's good to know!

The more I think about it, the more I'm pretty sure I did run across that $5 Pony Express site, but I already knew about Dime Box, so I just dismissed it as being no bargain at all.
