patiodog ; you'll have to share with two pretty fierce competitors : bailey and cleo. cleo will show her teeth at anyone coming close to her foodbowl; bailey might have mercy at someone begging for alms. as for german eating habits i assume you have heard the expression: ESS, ESS, MEIN KIND! ... i should say that when we stopped over in london, england for a couple of days last year the breakfasts in the hotel certainly would have given any german breakfast a good room for its money; they were both BIIIG and tasty - and the coffee was good too.... they did have a spanish kitchen crew though. ESS, ESS, MEIN KIND ! hbg

That certainly explains the apparent fondness for cellulite displayed by Albrecht Drurer.

You sure the canvas hasn't just gone wrinkly in intervening years? (But, then, some of them guys do like texture...)

Excellent. (rub rub). The German hotel breakfast spread, mmm, buffet-style with many varieties of hearty breads and cheeses and meats and big bowls of muesli and GOOD milk and juices and fruits and rolls and... mmmmmm... all you can eat.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, gluttony....

Patiodog - Miss Cleopatra may be smiling in the photo Setanta is using as an avatar, but that is not a smile often seen near the foodbowl.

However, if you're nice and sweet, and particularly if yer scrawny, Mrs. hamburger will put out a spread that will put any German restaurant to shame.

Esssssssssssen!

patiodog: the german language distiguishes between the ESSEN(to eat) of humans and FRESSEN(to devour comes probably close) of animals. i guess it expresses the view that animals are a little more ravenous and quick when consuming their foods. but it seems to me that dogs can also be quite selective about their food and their likes and dislikes. cleo - one of ebeth's dogs - is quite fond of chewing a leaf or two from a hosta plant. first time we saw her do it, we thought it might make her ill; but no PROBLEMS developed(and she sure enjoyed her greens!). hbg

thanks, ham. so, er, are you from, er, hamburg? because your name always makes me hungry, but it won't if i know that it denotes point of origin and not flavor.

hamburger should make you hunger, PPDog - but not because he is ground beef. He is from Hamburg, and is married to Mrs. Hamburger, and they are of course the assistant staff to the delightful grand-dogs Cleo and Bailey. You should be hungry because Mrs. hamburger is an amazing cook and baker. Very Happy

So I've gathered, but every time I see the name I turn and see a sizzling burg on my bookshelf like the old woman in Requiem for a Dream.

And this building is full of refrigerators. I get unnerved.
