Do you know what a sociopath is?

Antisocial Personality Disorder

What do you think of these people? What should be done about them?

Do you know anyone who has this condition, or whom you suspect of having it?

Can you think of specific cases of sociopathic behaviour of a sociopath that you know?

you say us.....like you are a sociopath?

if you are, you wouldn't care what anyone thinks of you, you'd just be using the question and responses as a means to an end.

So, what do you want Slick?

Psychiatrists labeling someone as a sociopath is about as professional as me calling someone a jerk.

Which parts of the DSM-IV criteria for Antisocial personality disorder are less than other disorders, and why?

Perhaps you'd call other disorders unprofessional?

I invited a real sociopath into my house once. Of course, I didn't realize he was a sociopath until he went in my fridge and stared eating all my food (without being offered and without asking). Then he had the nerve to complain that I didn't have enough to eat.

You just like to think that you have a disorder because it gives you an excuse.

"impulsive behavior, disregard for social norms, and indifference to the rights and feelings of others."

Yeah, whatever. You could say that about anyone.

"they appear to experience a limited range of human emotions"

In other words, bullshit.

"a person with antisocial personality disorder has a strong id and ego that overpowers the superego"

Total bullshit.

So these guys go out to research and find correlations and come up with the most valid tests that they can find for a particular condition, and you're argument against that is "bullshit".

That's just a theory.

It would be great if I could just knock down somebody's argument by labeling it 'bullshit'.
Then we wouldn't have to be here. We would all just know what the bullshit is, and there would be no need for any logical and rational discussion.

Sounds convenient enough. Although, if we all did that, I would wonder how anybody came to such conclusions....

I saw a 2 hour program not that long ago on this topic. There were interviews with the man who created the test which is used in our prisons to determine whether a person is sociopathic or not. Once that test has stamped you as a sociopath, you are basically screwed.
No more treatments. Considered a 'goner'. Even if you were to get parole, you will never be left alone.
They followed one such man who they determined was ready for release: so he lived off the prison, in a trailer, with an electric monitor on him at all times.

The show also explored how, basically, if someone is a sociopath there really is no definitive way to know it. The tests are 'fairly accurate' (others would say bullshit Smile. It could be argued that these people are only diagnosed when they stop doing what we let them get away with - umm, what is socially acceptable or not.

For example, they said that most people who would score the highest on such tests are successful people who will never be touched.
Today's coorporate atmosphere is purrrrfect for them.

It personally does not seem like much of a life, to me. But they don't know anything different.

Ohhh, and I also want to say: what in hell is with all these kids nowadays being diagnosed with it? Everyone has a flipping label from some quack. -had to rant a little.
